AKP History:
ALPHA KAPPA RHO INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN SERVICE FRATERNITY AND SORORITY, INC. During the tumultuous early years of martial law in the Philippines, sixteen freshmen and sophomore students of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, most of whom were products of exclusive school for boys in Metro Manila, were already in a group of their own as they share good times, good education an
d a special camaraderie amongst themselves since most were already acquianted and former classmates during their high school years. With their good looks, popularity and solid grouping, this " barkadahan " soon started getting the attention of fraternity recruiters in the campus and tried their best to recruit the group to their fraternities as surely the little group would be an asset and a prize to any fraternity they join. However, when more fraternities vied for their attention, Jose "Boy" Chua had the idea of "why not just form our own fraternity"? So with the other members of the group namely: Teddy de Lara, Edwin Solano, Tanny Bernabe, Obet Posadas, Arnel ( Lim ) Lorenzo, Noli Manalo, Roger Sarmiento, Teddy Aves, Philip Diman, Philip Balangue, Monchet Cabrera, Gil Villegas, Bismarck Queyquep, Ato Go and James Bracewell, they met on Aug. 8, 1973, the feast day of St. Dominic and patron saint of UST at the University Hills Subdivision in Caloocan City, underwent initiation to each other, and thus Alpha Kappa Rho Intercollegiate Service Fraternity was founded and came into being. However, our founding founders soon realized that founding a fraternity is not a walk in the park. Tension rose within the UST campus among envious fraternities with our presence, as they view AKP as a possible rival with lots of potentials. Inevitably, the situation erupted into an all out frat war, sometimes with two or three fraternities simultaneously, all of them trying to erase the pledgeling AKP name and send it to oblivion. We stood our ground and faced adversities with much courage, vigor, steadfastness and fortitude, in defense of, and for the protection of our existence. After 40 years, AKP is still here and still growing while former adversaries were never heard of again. In so short a time, the small group developed into a strong force - in character and spirit, as well as in great numbers. More collegiate chapters were formed: UE, FEU, PSBA, NCBA, and others at the University in Belt in Manila and over the years, spread as well to other parts of Metro Manila, nearby provinces and eventually to all parts of the Philippines and even in other countries. Later, sorority, junior, community chapters and mergers were effected and became part of the AKP family. Unfortunately, these events were not recorded as to the dates because AKP was still young and the importance of record taking were overlooked. AKP SORORITY: With the growing popularity and prestige of the AKP Fraternity, members of the opposite sex naturally gravitated to the group, not including girlfriends, classmates, barkadas and close friends. With the closeness and constant companionship with the group, the girls slowly learned and absorbed the AKP doctrines. To formalize their relationship with AKP, and with the guidance of our Founding Fathers, they soon established the Alpha Kappa Rho Sorority in UST. With Sis Girlie Tesoro, Marissa Cumuyog, the late Jayjay Aquino, Alda Altiveros, Grace Mendoza, Joyce Gregorio and Irene Ileto, they were the first sorority members. AKP JUNIORS: The first AKP junior recruit was the late Brod Rey Quitoriano, recruited by Brod Gerry Zaguirre, as he was a former schoolmate at the Notre Dame of Manila High School, where five of the Founding Fathers also graduated. Brod Rey was then interviewed and scheduled for initiation by the 1975 UE Skeptron officers led by GS Pykes Oppus, VGS Bong Carandang, Bros Gerry Zaguirre, Jun Mayuga, Augie Fabian, Ching Mendoza, William Ho and others. Brod Rey survived and then started recruiting high school students. Asked why HS students, he said " they are my classmates". Surprise and shock followed to learn that he was still in high school as he was already in his early 20's. Anyway, his recruits which included Bros Jun Pasaporte and Noriel Arcadio, already survived the initiation process on July 26, 1975 and then also started recruiting more members. Initially rejected by the Mother chapter, as our name then was Alpha Kappa Rho Intercollegiate Service Fraternity, not high school; they then formed the Delta Kappa Rho fraternity. A few months later, the mother chapter relented and gave approval for their integration into the AKP. Delta Kappa Rho was abolished and then became officially known as the AKP Juniors. The first AKP junior chapter was founded by Brod Jun Pasaporte at the UE Manila HS Dept. with him as the first elected junior GS. Brod Jun Pasaporte is also credited as a factor in the phenomenal increase in our membership as he was loyal and hardworking to our beloved AKP. AKP COMMUNITY CHAPTERS: Because of the prestige and popularity of AKP, brethrens then started organizing community chapters in their respective places to spread the AKP doctrine and also to continue to enjoy the bonding and camaraderie not only in school but now even in their own communities. Like the proverbial mushrooms, community chapters started sprouting all over Metro Manila, and eventually spread throughout the whole of the Philippines. However, no known records were established with regards to the first and succeeding community chapters that were organized. But the better known community chapters then were from Valenzuela, Bulacan, University Hills Subd in Caloocan and in Marikina. AKP MERGERS: Alpha Kappa Rho also entered into a strategic merger and alliance with the Zeta Upsilon Fraternity of UE Manila and with the Omega Fraternity and Sorority Inc. (OFSI) of San Sebastian College in Manila. As represented by Bros Rolly Panganiban, Alex Ramirez, Alex Mangubat, Dennie Ravara, Hector Angeles, and others, AKP and OFSI mutually agreed that both fraternities would be as one; that OFSI would no longer exist and instead would use the name Alpha Kappa Rho. In exchange, AKP would adopt and use their burn ritual, handshake and handsign. It is important to note that before this merger, AKP members do not have the burn mark or ritual, as they personally knew each other because of small membership in the AKP then THE AKP INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN SERVICE FRATERNITY AND SORORITY INC.,
The AKRHO or the SKEPTRON SOCIETY as it is likewise known has always been and always be an organization steeped in the tradition of the past-free expression fun loving, seek for the truth, unity, loyalty, respect, the pursuit of true brotherhood and sisterhood. It has spread through-out the archipelago and all over the world and has now become better known as the Alpha Kappa Rho International Humanitarian Service Fraternity and Sorority Inc. Facts of Jun Pasaporte: He joins as neophyte on the first week of July 1975 along with Noriel Arcadio, recruited by the late Rey Quitoriano who was then the first junior AKP from University of the East (U.E) Recto High School. Persistently went forward to the stamping ground of AKRHO at U.E student canteen. But, somehow rejected on the first attempt since high school educates are barred to join the college fraternities at that time. However the officers and the board members of the AKP U.E decided to consent high school educates so as to attain the growing population of the other fraternities in U.E Recto and also the MASS RECRUITMENT has been approved. 1975 Skeptron officers of U.E Recto under the leadership of GS Bro Pykes Oppus, VGS Bro Bong Carandang, Bro Jun Mayuga, Bro Jerry Zaguire, Bro Ching Mendoza, Bro Wiliam Ho and Bro Auggie Fabian. On July 26, 1975 Bro Jun and Noriel finally underwent initiation where they passed and welcome as brothers and member of AKP U.E Recto Chapter batch 1975.
