ICYMI: The CT girls serve in double denim

Did you know that denim is actually a weave, not a fabric?

It’s made using a twill weave, a pattern of interlacing threads that creates its signature diagonal ribbing. Traditionally, denim is woven with cotton fibers, but sometimes polyester or elastane (spandex) is added for stretch and durability.

Behind 𝘼𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 (𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓) is the collective hard work, creativity, and dedication of the students of CTech 41: Philippine Clothing and Textile (A.Y. 2024–2025). All from concept to ex*****on, every detail was shaped through hands-on production and a shared drive to bring this vision to life. 𝘼𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 (𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓) is the culminating fashion exhibit of CTech 41: Philippine Clothing and Textile (A.Y. 2024–2025) students, in collaboration with the Jurado Study Collection of the UP CHE Department of Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design.

Culture does not stay still, it refracts, reshapes, and reimagines itself through time, through memory, through us.

𝘼𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 (𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓) is the culminating fashion exhibit of CTech 41: Philippine Clothing and Textile (A.Y. 2024–2025) students, in collaboration with the Jurado Study Collection of the UP CHE Department of Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design.

While the saya is drawn from the museum archives, it is the baro that each student reinterprets—shaped by personal histories, cultural fragments, and creative expression. But all ask: 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘵𝘩?

𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗛𝗘𝗥, 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗛𝗜𝗠?
A question raised during a class discussion concerned with why the baro’t saya has not been incorporated into menswear, prompted the designer to reimagine what a baro could be like if it were for a male wearer—this decision serving as an attempt to challenge the binaries that are often associated with certain clothing pieces.

Similar to how light refracts and reveals hidden spectrums, I, Oren Leonida, together with other students, have infused our unique stories and identities into each baro piece, paired with a saya drawn from the 𝐽𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑜 𝑆𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑦 𝐶𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛.
