Something to ponder

Is the future bright for aspiring philosophers?

Articles like last week's "The Revenge of the Philosophy Majors" in the New York Times are optimistic about the role of the philosopher in the age of AI.

"A.I. labs are hiring contrarian, chin-stroking, finger-steepling sages", it declares. "Who’s underemployed now?"

At the same time, university philosophy departments including those at the of Hertfordshire and Kingston University are closing, and others, like the department at the University of Dundee, are fighting closure.

Perhaps, as ever, most people who study philosophy will go on to apply the skills they've acquired in other roles:

"Philosophy does not usually become a job called “philosopher,” just as history does not usually become a job called “historian.” It becomes a form of training that has to be translated into institutional work," argues Aaron Kagan in his essay The Philosophy Job Market Deepfake, published last week in the Daily Nous.

The Master of Arts in Philosophy program at the Divine Word Mission Seminary (Christ the King Mission Seminary) in Quezon City is a comprehensive 36-unit curriculum. It comprises basic, core and elective courses, and a thesis requirement.
