Congratulations to the Navarrete-Flores Family, recipient of the 2026 UPAA Multigenerational Alumni Family Award: Four Generations! 🎉
The grand dame of the family Mrs. Primitiva Raval Ruiz-Navarrete graduated in the 1930 with a degree in BS Education. She was a teacher at Ilocos Norte National High School in her hometown in Laoag. According to her Philippinensian write up she was a soprano, a singer of Kundiman, which she also pursued and sang in KZRM a popular radio station in pre war Manila where she met Dr. Agripino P. Navarrete, a Public Health Physician. They had a family. When WW II broke out Dr Navarrete enlisted as Medical Captain in the USAFFE. WWII left her widowed, she entered government service and eventually became the Chief of Records Section of GSIS (Government Service Insurance System) until she retired sometime in the late 1970s. She lived on to be a UPAA lifetime member till she died at 103 years old.
Her youngest, Dr. Rosa Marie Ruiz Navarrete-Flores, graduated from UP High School in 1958 and later took BS Pre Medicine in Diliman. She took up residency training in Family and Community Medicine at UP-PGH. Later, became consultant at the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center. She was a teacher, shaping the lives of future doctors at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. After retirement she settled into private practice at the Manila Doctors Hospital where she was involved training resident physicians alongside seeing private patients. She became Barangay Health Center Community Coordinator, overseeing resident physicians do community work. She became an officer of the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians and became Manila Chapter President during the pandemic. Her advocacy and service to the community did not go unnoticed. She was given an Award of Distinction as Community Coordinator by the Manila Doctors Hospital in 2023 and was UERM Medical Center Most Outstanding Alumni in Community Service in 2025. She remains active in the UP Delta Lambda Sigma Sorority and is currently batch representative.

Dr. Rosano Mario Navarrete Flores, is a graduate of AB Political Science, UPD, but chose to pursue a career in Medicine. He is also a Family Medicine Specialist and a Diplomate and Fellow of the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians. He is also involved in various local community health and development engagements mostly through the PAFP Rizal Chapter. A lifelong learner, he took up a post graduate certificate course in Occupational Health and Safety (PGCOSH) at the College of Public Health in UP Manila and finished a masteral degree in Management and Hospital Administration (MMHoA) from PCU. Earlier in his medical career, he worked as Clinician in various companies in the private sector -- HMO companies and Hotels Hospitals and Industries. He is currently affiliated with Healthway Medical Network as a Family Medicine Specialist.
Dr. Barbara Amity Flores, is a graduate of BS Family Life and Child Development. She also pursued a career in medicine. She took up residency training in Family and Community Medicine at UP-PGH and continued into fellowship training in Supportive, Palliative and Hospice Medicine, in the same institution. Though she did not practice her degree in FLCD, a teacher by heart, she is involved in training of Family Medicine resident physicians and medical interns in various institutions -- Veterans Memorial Medical Center; Healthway FEU-NRMF Medical Center; and for a time, the locos Training and Regional Medical Center, La Union; she is the Fellowship Training Coordinator in Hospice and Palliative Medicine of FEU-NRMF Medical Center and Batangas Medical Center; and an Assistant Professor of the FEU-NRMF Institute of Medicine. She maintains her clinical practice as a Family Physician and Hospice and Palliative Medicine Specialist.
Atty. Rochelle Rita Marie Navarrete Flores is a lawyer by profession. She is a graduate of AB Political Science and holds a Masteral degree in Public Administration, also from UP Diliman. She worked as a Court Decongestant Officer of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, assigned under the Metropolitan Trial Court, Quezon City and is currently a Public Attorney who provides legal assistance to indigent clients through the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO).

Ma. Daniella Louise Flores-Borrero, is a graduate of Bachelor of Elementary Education (Teaching in the Early Grades, K-2). She is a Filipino designer, shoemaker, visual artist and communication specialist whose interdisciplinary practice bridges craft, culture, research and public communication. She is the founder and creative director of Daniella D11B, a footwear and design studio rooted in Filipino material culture. Her work has been exhibited in UP, Ayala Museum and SEAMEO INNOTECH and her craft in shoemaking has received international recognition at the International Footwear Designers Competition (IFDC), where she won 2nd Runner-Up in the Individual Men’s Footwear Category (2024) for Tusok-Tusok and 2nd Runner-Up in the Individual Children’s Footwear Category (2025) for Pamana. She also won at the Global Footwear Design Awards for her design Isaw under the Sneakers – Unisex Fashion Category. She is married to Gato Borrero.
Ricardo Louis Flores graduated with a BS in Community Development in UPD in 2012. He is a youth engagement specialist, civic organizer, educator, media practitioner, and entrepreneur whose work has focused on empowering young Filipinos, strengthening democratic participation, and building communities of action. With nearly two decades of experience in youth organizing, civic engagement, education, and institutional work, Carlo has consistently worked at the intersection of public service, communication, and community leadership. He currently serves as Executive Director of Team Pinas Foundation, a research-driven civic coalition that brings together academics, public intellectuals, youth leaders, communicators, and grassroots organizers to promote democratic values, evidence-based public discourse, and active citizenship.
Ma. Alyssa Christianna Flores, daughter of Dr. Barbara and Jan Michael, was completing her requirements for graduation in BA Journalism at the UP College of Media and Communication (formerly Mass Communication). She was an advocate of responsible journalism and social responsibility. She was a UAAP Player and represented UP in the UAAP and SEA Games from 2013-2015.
