Today, the Language Education Area invites everyone to pause to honor the life and legacy of Asst. Prof. Juland D. Salayo, Ph.D. He was more than an educator—he was a mentor, a guiding light, a champion of knowledge and using it to achieve justice. To those who had the privilege of knowing him, he was not just a professor or a colleague- he was a friend. He dedicated his life to shaping minds, instilling wisdom, and critically questioning conventions so that education would not be about facts but about fairness and justice, not about knowledge but about making the lives of others better.
His was a kind heart with no limits. He gave freely of himself so his students might grow, so society might think just a little more critically and compassionately. In every lesson he taught, in every conversation he shared, he left behind memories and laughers that will never fade.
We grieve today because we have lost a cherished friend, colleague, and professor. We take comfort in knowing that his legacy, lessons, kindness, and memories endure. He may not be physically with us anymore, but we are heartened by the thought that he simply moved to a new place, where there is no pain, where there is always sunshine, and where his spirit will forever be bright. We are grateful for being part of and witness to a life well and fully lived. We will remember him, not without sadness, but with admiration and hope for a man whose heart has already “slipped the surly bonds of Earth…and touched the face of God.”
