Members of AFP-backed paramilitary group Alamara are now breaking into the sanctuary of almost 500 Lumad evacuees in UCCP Haran, Davao City.

This comes 10 days after the Regional Peace and Order Council - 11 (RPOC-11) issued a resolution demanding the closure of the church compound due to malicious accusations against the institution.

Haran has been sheltering Lumad families since 1994 who sought refuge at the sanctuary from their communities in the mountains of Talaingod and Kapalong, Davao del Norte due to massive militarization that yielded to extensive land-grabbing and environmental plunder.

Anakbayan vehemently condemns this vile act of the administration. Raids and planting of fake evidences, like this, has been popular under the counter-insurgency operations of Duterte's National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Struggle (NTF-ELCAC) to justify intensified attacks, arrest and filing of trumped up charges against human rights defenders.

In celebration of the birth of the spearhead of the Kataas-taasang Kagalang-galang na Katipunan ng Bayan, Andres Bonifacio, we do not only pay respect to what he had risked to gain our country's national freedom. We also commemorate the roles and actions taken by the youth during the Spanish occupation and their significance to roles that the youth must do today.

Today, the country's politico-economical aspect is hugely influenced and controlled by the US Imperialism which limits our freedom to our own resources. The Imperialism of China is also starting to overtake the world and the Philippines becomes one of its victims by trapping the country with huge, unpayable debts.

Together with the US and Chinese Imperialism, the Philippine government itself, led by Duterte administration, coordinates with them to worsen the situation of the people. Ceaseless attacks against farmers, continuous overworking with no enough compensation to the workers, oppression against the urban poor, fascist attacks on human rights, and illegal arrest and extrajudicial killings of human right defenders are done by the PH government to aggravate the sufferings of the people.

The role and the readiness of today's youth are being challenged whether we are able to stand for our national sovereignty and preserve the freedom that the K*K had risked their lives for.

The Student Christian Movement of the Philippines— Metro Manila encourages the progressive youth and people of faith to join the action-protest addressing the different crises faced by the people today, as well as to stand for the genuine national freedom.

TUTULAN AT LABANAN ANG MARTIAL LAW SA KALUNSURAN! LANSAGIN ANG OPLAN KALASAG!

Ang pasismo ng rehimeng Duterte ay tumitindi sa bawat taong nagdaraan. Ang Oplan Tokhang na kumitil ng libo-libong buhay noong 2016 hanggang sa ngayon ay sinundan ng Martial Law sa Mindanao noong 2017. Pagsapait ng 2018 ay isinailalim naman sa Memorandum Order 32 ang mga probinsya ng Bicol, Samar, at Negros na nagbunga sa mga "killing fields" sa mga lugar na ito.

Nang ilabas ni Duterte ang EO 70 na nagbuo ng National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict ay naging sunod-sunod at walang habas ang pag-atake sa mg progresibo.

Sinundan ito ng Oplan Kalasag na sa tabing ng anti-kriminalidad ay nagsailalim sa buong Kamaynilaan sa "de facto Martial Law".

Kinakailangan ang buong lakas na pagkakaisa ng mamamayan upang ipagtanggol ang karapatan at kalayaan.

Greetings of Peace!

In the guise of anti-terror, war on drugs and counterinsurgency program Oplan Kapanatagan, the government has unleashed joint military and police operations to raid communities and set-up checkpoints, tag as terrorists and supporters of the New Peoples Army most of the community activists and progressive organizations, illegally arrest and detain activists and file trumped-up charges, and worse, kill them using the "nanlaban" excuse in most of their operations.

The attacks on our right defenders under Oplan Kalasag, the martial law-esque operation in Metro Manila participated by the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines brings the necessity to defend them.

DEFEND THE DEFENDERS NETWORK aims to expose the increasing numbers of human rights violations committed by the military and the police against activists and critics based in Metro Manila and call for the revocation of draconian measures used to silence dissent.

As advocate and defender of rights defenders, we invite you to join the launch on August 26 (Monday), from 9:00 AM until 12:00 noon at the Iglesia Filipina Indipendiente (IFI) Main Cathedral in Taft Avenue cor. Escoda St, Manila.
