𝐕𝐏𝐮𝐋𝐒𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲

The University of the Philippines School of Urban and Regional Planning (UP SURP), through its Office of Training and Extension Services (OTES), invites environmental planners, planning practitioners, local government personnel, and other interested participants to the Virtual Public Lecture Series (VPuLSe) on Sustainable Urban Mobility on 05 November 2026 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, via Zoom.

The webinar will explore key dimensions of transport planning and management in the Philippine context, including the policy and institutional framework for transport planning, the interaction between land use and transportation, and mobility and transport development management strategies. Through the lecture series, UP SURP aims to contribute to strengthening the capacities of environmental planners and related practitioners in advancing integrated, accessible, efficient, and sustainable transport systems.

Slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis and registration may close once the maximum number of participants has been reached.

To secure your slot, please settle the registration fee upon receipt of your Statement of Account (SOA). The SOA will be sent to your registered email address within 2–3 working days after verification of your submitted information. Please note that registration fees are non-refundable.

Official Statement of ICE on the incident concerning a person posing as a UP student:

Last Friday, October 2, 2026, we were informed by the CE Reps and UP ACES officers that they discovered a person posing as a UP student, interacting with our students, and in some cases, soliciting money from various people at ICE.

The person’s true identity was confirmed after we checked his name and student number in our records. We immediately instructed the students and our staff to watch out for the person as he was reported to frequent our canteen. We coordinated with the UP Police, who took custody of him and conducted a preliminary interview and investigation.

As it turned out, the person did not have an ID and could not produce a valid government ID. He presented what appeared to be a printed Form 5, but upon verification, we confirmed that it was a falsified document.

Meanwhile, our students reported that the person went through the application process of one of our college-based organizations, allegedly borrowed money and solicited financial assistance from our students, and possibly accessed a private organization database. Our staff assisted students, who gave their statements to the police. We were later informed that UP Police released the person.

Let this be a reminder to all: be vigilant and do your due diligence before accepting members into your organizations or granting access to facilities and private information.

Please report to the ICE and college staff immediately if there are persons you suspect to resorting to false identity or fraud to take advantage of our students, faculty, or staff.

We are also engaging our staff and security personnel about being more aware of persons entering our premises. We ask our faculty, staff, students and visitors to produce proper identification if and when requested upon entry to the ICE building and its facilities. This will be helpful to minimize if not eliminate unauthorized persons from entering our premises.

His dissertation, “𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙀𝙑 𝘼𝙙𝙤𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙗𝙮 𝙇𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝘾𝙖𝙧 𝙐𝙨𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙑𝙚𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙡𝙚-𝙩𝙤-𝙃𝙤𝙢𝙚/𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮”, addresses the main barriers towards EV adoption involving high purchase cost and range anxiety by grounding EV systems integration in actual trip demand data in the context of national fleet transition and building-level microgrids.

His Doctoral studies were supported by the Japanese Government Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarship.

He returned to active service on 01 Oct 2026, and has resumed his duties as an Assistant Professor and a member of the Transportation Engineering Group of UP ICE.

Congratulations to Dr. Jun T. Castro for being reappointed as Director of the National Center for Transportation Studies!

The UP National Center for Transportation Studies congratulates Dr. Jun T. Castro on his reappointment as NCTS Director for another term, from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2029.

Prof. Castro has served the University for two decades and is currently a Professor under the Transportation Field of Specialization of the UP School of Urban and Regional Planning (UP SURP). As he begins another term at the helm of NCTS, we look forward to his continued leadership in advancing transportation education, research, and professional practice toward safer, sustainable, inclusive, and responsive transportation systems in the Philippines.
