Dr. Benjamin B. Dingel is a distinguished Filipino-American physicist and photonics expert with over three decades of experience spanning academia, industry, and innovation in optical science and engineering. He earned his B.S. in Physics from Ateneo de Manila University in 1984 and completed his M.S. and Ph.D. in Applied Physicsโ€”specializing in optics and photonicsโ€”at Osaka University, Japan, in 1993.

Dr. Dingel has held research and leadership positions in top international institutions, including NEC Corporation and CRLโ€“Ministry of Post and Telecommunication (now NICT) in Japan, and later as a Senior Research Scientist at Corning Inc. in New York, where he worked on integrated photonic technologies and broadband access systems.

In 2003, he co-founded Nasfine Photonics, Inc., serving as CEO and R&D Director to develop advanced photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technologies. He currently serves as the Head of the Ateneo Research on Optical Sciences, Engineering, and Systems (ROSES) Laboratory and is a Research Fellow under the Ateneo Research Institute of Science and Engineering (ARISE). At Ateneo, Dr. Dingel leads hands-on, publication-driven research programs in photonics, training the next generation of Filipino scientists and engineers.

With over 150 peer-reviewed publications and more than 10 patents in optical system design, Dr. Dingel is recognized internationally for his pioneering work in optical and microwave photonics, PICs, optical signal processing, and sensing. He is a former Senior Editor for SPIE and has chaired numerous international conferences in optics and photonics. Through his leadership, Dr. Dingel has bridged global R&D expertise with Philippine innovationโ€”advancing photonics research, education, and technology development in the region.

Dr. Atthi received the bachelorโ€™s degree in materials engineering and masterโ€™s degree in engineering management from Kasetsart University, Thailand, in 2004 and 2008, respectively. In 2011, he won the MEXT Monbukagakusho scholarship granted by the Japanese Government to pursue his graduate study at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. He received his masterโ€™s and Ph.D. degrees in electronics and applied physics in 2013 and 2016, respectively. He has authored and coauthored 50 technical journal publications, given a talk on his research at more than 122 academic conferences, and filed 27 domestic and international patents. In 2018, he was appointed as the Leader of the Surface and Microfluidic Device Innovation Research Team at the Thai microelectronics Center (TMEC), Thailand. Currently, he is a Fab Manager at TMEC. His research focuses on Si-based CMOS and MEMs process integration technology, advanced lithography, high-k/metal gate stacks, silicon photonic devices, microfluidic devices, SiC power devices, and superamphiphobic and anti-fouling surfaces for various applications.
