Dr. Benjamin B. Dingel is a distinguished Filipino-American physicist and photonics expert with over three decades of experience spanning academia, industry, and innovation in optical science and engineering. He earned his B.S. in Physics from Ateneo de Manila University in 1984 and completed his M.S. and Ph.D. in Applied Physicsโspecializing in optics and photonicsโat Osaka University, Japan, in 1993.
Dr. Dingel has held research and leadership positions in top international institutions, including NEC Corporation and CRLโMinistry of Post and Telecommunication (now NICT) in Japan, and later as a Senior Research Scientist at Corning Inc. in New York, where he worked on integrated photonic technologies and broadband access systems.
In 2003, he co-founded Nasfine Photonics, Inc., serving as CEO and R&D Director to develop advanced photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technologies. He currently serves as the Head of the Ateneo Research on Optical Sciences, Engineering, and Systems (ROSES) Laboratory and is a Research Fellow under the Ateneo Research Institute of Science and Engineering (ARISE). At Ateneo, Dr. Dingel leads hands-on, publication-driven research programs in photonics, training the next generation of Filipino scientists and engineers.
With over 150 peer-reviewed publications and more than 10 patents in optical system design, Dr. Dingel is recognized internationally for his pioneering work in optical and microwave photonics, PICs, optical signal processing, and sensing. He is a former Senior Editor for SPIE and has chaired numerous international conferences in optics and photonics. Through his leadership, Dr. Dingel has bridged global R&D expertise with Philippine innovationโadvancing photonics research, education, and technology development in the region.
