PANUEO (Panulo) Folk Dance 🎣 🦦

Performed by PSU-Q Sinag Lahi Dance Troupe (SLDT)

Panueo is an occupational folk dance from New Washington, Aklan, in the Philippines. The name Panueo refers to the nocturnal catching of fish, shrimp, and crabs along the shoreline, using nets (sibot) and light sources (bamboo torches, sueo). The dance dramatizes the nightly fishing activity, portraying the movements and interactions of fisherfolk as they work by the water under torchlight. Over time, the dance has been formalized for performance. As an occupational dance, it reflects the livelihood of fishing communities and pays tribute to their work. It fosters cultural pride, preserves local tradition, and is often performed in cultural festivals, school presentations, and competitions. Through expressive movements and props, it also conveys themes of perseverance, cooperation, and harmony with nature. 🌺 🌹

PSU-Q Sinag Lahi Dance Troupe will be holding another set of audition this coming Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, 5:00–7:00 PM at JTR Room.

📜Application Requirements

1. Duly accomplished Application Form.
2. One (1) prepared folk dance piece (minimum of one minute).
