𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗡 𝗚𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗢: Your GAD Education, Empowerment, and Safe Spaces Partner

The Gender and Development Inclusion (GADI) Office of SUNN continues its mission of mainstreaming gender equality! Our GADI Director led an insightful capacity-building session for the 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 (𝐆𝐅𝐏𝐒) of 𝐒𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐲 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥.

The workshop delved deep into the pillars of effective GAD implementation:

𝐆𝐀𝐃 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐬 & 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 – Understanding the "why" and the legal landscape.

𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬 – Equipping members with the tools to identify and bridge gender gaps.

𝐒𝐞𝐱-𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 – Mastering the foundation of evidence-based planning.

By strengthening these core competencies, we ensure that our local schools remain safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces for every student and educator.

𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗡 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗔𝗗𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱!

The State University of Northern Negros (SUNN) marks a significant milestone in its journey toward gender equality! On May 5-6, 2026, the University successfully underwent the face-to-face National GADtimpala Validation, demonstrating its commitment to excellence in gender mainstreaming.

The rigorous assessment focused on how well SUNN integrates gender perspectives into its core operations:
• 𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗗 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 & 𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗗 𝗡𝗜𝗥: Evaluated gender mainstreaming across the SUC’s core functions (Curriculum, Research, and Extension) based on 𝗖𝗠𝗢 𝗡𝗼. 𝟭, 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟱.
• 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 (𝗣𝗖𝗪): Validated the University using the𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 (𝗚𝗠𝗘𝗙), focusing on four key entry points: Policy, People, Enabling Mechanisms, Programs, Activities, and Projects (PAPs)

The validation was supported by the full force of the GAD Focal Point System (GFPS), led by:
• Dr. Renante A. Egcas, University President & Chairperson of the Executive Committee
• Jackielee A. Anacleto, Gender and Development Inclusion (GADI) Director
• Ramuel Briones & Jessa Mae Montebon, GADI Staff

GADtimpala (Gender and Development Transformation & Institutionalization through Mainstreaming of Programs, Agenda, Linkages & Advocacies) is the PCW’s official incentives and awards system. Mandated by the Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710), it recognizes government agencies and SUCs for outstanding efforts in fostering women's empowerment and implementing gender-responsive programs.

SUNN stands tall as the only SUC in the Negros Island Region (NIR) and one of only two in the entire Visayas to qualify for this prestigious national award.

On April 17, 2019, Republic Act No. 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act was enacted to address gender-based sexual harassment in public settings, workplaces, schools, and online platforms. It strengthens protection mechanisms and promotes a culture of accountability and respect in every setting.

Seven years later, the call remains the same. Makibahagi, manindigan, at kumilos. Together, let us make safe spaces a daily reality for all.

The SUNN Gender and Development Inclusion (GADI) Office celebrates a significant milestone as our very own Director, Prof. Jackielee A. Anacleto, together with Dr. Jick C. Balinario and Dr. Mary Ann T. Arceño, published a study in the Polaris Global Scholarly Research and Trends (2026).

Title: "Development and Validation of Gender Sensitive and Inclusive Educational Resources Evaluation Tool"

At GADI, we believe that gender-responsiveness and inclusion starts with the materials we use to teach and publish. This research isn't just a paper—it is a practical solution designed to identify biases, measure inclusivity and ensure compliance.

When our leadership is actively creating the tools for change, it reinforces SUNN's commitment to a truly inclusive academic environment. This tool will serve as guide for curriculum developers, writers and policymakers to ensure that everyone is included.

In celebration of National Women’s Month, the SUNN GADI Office took to the airwaves via 89.7 FM K5 News FM Sagay to spread the message of empowerment and inclusion.

The discussion centered on the 2026 theme: "WE for Gender and Equality Inclusive Society," with a special focus on the sub-theme, "Lead like the Babaylan: Filipinas." Just as the Babaylans were the spiritual and community leaders of our history, today’s Filipinas continue to lead with resilience, wisdom, and a heart for social change.
