Eastern Samar State University Salcedo Campus proudly celebrated its 67th Founding Anniversary and officially welcomed all ESSUdyantes for the opening of School Year 2026โ2027 on June 22, 2026, at the Old University Gymnasium. The celebration carried the theme, โESSU at the Crossroads of Time: Honoring the Past, Embracing the Present, and Inspiring the Future.โ
The dayโs activities commenced with a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Bernard Aljibe invoked Godโs guidance and blessings for the University community as it embarked on another academic year. This was followed by a commemorative parade and the wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial statue of the late Congressman Felipe J. Abrigo, founder of the then Eastern Samar Regional Agricultural College (ESRAC), now Eastern Samar State University. The ceremony served as a fitting tribute to his vision and invaluable contribution to making quality education more accessible to the people of Eastern Samar.
The celebration continued with the opening program, highlighted by the inspirational message of Dr. Eduardo A. Cablao, Jr., Campus Administrator. In his address, Dr. Cablao shared updates on the current status of the campus, its ongoing developments, and future plans geared toward institutional growth and academic excellence. He also warmly welcomed the students, particularly the freshmen, as they began a new chapter in their educational journey. Emphasizing the University's unwavering commitment to quality education, he proudly noted the campusโ achievements, including the production of topnotchers in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) and the attainment of Certificates of Program Compliance (COPC) for all undergraduate programs.
A significant part of the program was the introduction of the University's top management officials, faculty members, and staff from the different colleges. This provided freshmen and continuing students with an opportunity to become acquainted with the individuals who will guide and support them throughout their academic pursuits.
The anniversary celebration also recognized employees who have rendered 10 to 25 years of dedicated service to the University, honoring their commitment and invaluable contributions to the institutionโs growth and success. Adding vibrancy to the occasion, the Saurog Dance Troupe delivered a remarkable cultural presentation that creatively depicted the rich history and development of the campus through music and dance.
The program concluded with the closing message delivered by Dr. Christopher A. Duran, who reflected on the University's remarkable journey over the past 67 years and expressed optimism for a future marked by continued excellence, innovation, and service to the community.
In the afternoon, the celebration continued through various outreach and recreational activities. A community pantry initiative was conducted for Lecturers, Contract of Service Employees, and students from economically challenged families, reflecting the University's spirit of compassion and social responsibility. Meanwhile, faculty and staff participated in fellowship activities, including parlor games and an open-play pickleball event, fostering camaraderie and strengthening the sense of community within the campus.
As ESSUโSalcedo Campus commemorates its 67 years of service and excellence, it remains steadfast in its mission of providing quality, accessible, and transformative education while nurturing future generations of competent, responsible, and globally competitive professionals.
