Eastern Samar State University Salcedo Campus conferred degrees on 484 graduates during its 63rd Commencement Exercises, with 23 from Graduate Studies and 461 from undergraduate programs, in a ceremony attended by university officials, government leaders, faculty members, parents, and guests.

The ceremony opened with the pronouncement by Dr. Debbie Joyce R. Voloso, University and Board of Regents Secretary, followed by the invocation, entrance of the university colors, singing of the Philippine National Anthem, and ASEAN Hymn.

Dr. Eduardo A. Cablao, Jr., Campus Administrator, introduced the commencement speaker, Hon. Christopher Sheen P. Gonzales, Representative of the Lone District of Eastern Samar, who delivered a heartfelt message on the true purpose of education, resilience, gratitude, and humble beginnings. Hon. Gonzales reminded the graduates that education goes beyond passing examinations and should serve as a guide in life. “Nag-aaram kita para dire la makapasar hit exam, lugod nag-aaram kita para ini magamit ha kinabuhi hit kada tagsa ha aton,” he said.

Hon. Gonzales also encouraged the graduates to honor the parents, teachers, classmates, friends, and loved ones who supported them throughout their academic journey. He further urged them to face the future with accountability, integrity, and courage, reminding them not to be afraid to begin small because “some of the greatest achievements begin quietly.”

Congratulatory addresses were delivered by several distinguished guests, including Hon. Marcelino C. Libanan, Representative of the 4Ps Party-list and Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, represented by Mr. Leonardo Balmes; Hon. Ralph Vincent M. Evardone, Governor of Eastern Samar; Hon. Melchor L. Mergal, Mayor of Salcedo; and Dr. Maximo C. Aljibe, Regional Director of CHED Regional Office VIII.

A plaque of appreciation was presented by Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr., SUC President III, in recognition of the support and presence of the commencement speaker and honored guests. The candidates for graduation were then presented by the respective college deans, after which Dr. Pagatpatan confirmed the graduates and led the conferment of degrees, officially declaring them graduates of Eastern Samar State University.

As part of the ceremony, Clarence Earl M. Blanco, Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering graduate, led the Pledge of Loyalty. The graduates were then inducted into the Eastern Samar State University Alumni Association by Hon. Wynston A. Lagramada, President of the Federated Alumni Association, represented by Dir. Andy Lapada.

The commencement exercises were also graced by Hon. Shiloh Isha M. Duran, President of the Federated Student Council Organization, Inc.; Dr. Vicente A. Agda, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Prof. Jared Harem Q. Celis, Campus Administrator of ESSU-Guiuan Campus; Dr. Jerald P. Torillo, Campus Administrator of ESSU-Maydolong Campus; and Prof. Jairus Isais Q. Celis, Dean of ESSU-Balangiga Campus.

The successful conduct of the 63rd Commencement Exercises was made possible through the leadership of Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr., University President, and the guidance and support of Dr. Eduardo A. Cablao, Jr., Campus Administrator, together with the faculty, staff, and working committees.

The ceremony concluded with the singing of the University Hymn and the recessional, marking a significant milestone for the graduates, their families, and the entire ESSU-Salcedo community.

Through the event, Eastern Samar State University-Salcedo Campus reaffirmed its commitment to producing graduates who are equipped to serve their communities, uphold excellence, and contribute meaningfully to society.

𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗨 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗰𝗲𝗱𝗼 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: “𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒂𝒏” 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀

As the graduates of Eastern Samar State University Salcedo Campus Batch 2026 prepare to close one meaningful chapter of their lives and begin another, one timeless Filipino song echoed deeply in their hearts—“Minsan” by the legendary Filipino band Eraserheads. More than just a graduation song, it became a powerful reminder of friendship, struggles, sacrifices, and the unforgettable journey shared within the halls of ESSU Salcedo.

The heartfelt lyrics, “Minsan tayo ay naging tunay na magkaibigan,” perfectly captured the bond that the graduates built throughout the years. Behind every classroom discussion, sleepless nights, examinations, research defenses, and campus activities were friendships that transformed strangers into family. Through victories and failures, laughter and tears, the Batch 2026 graduates stood together—proving that education is not only about academic achievement, but also about the relationships formed along the journey.

“Minsan” resonated deeply because it mirrors the reality of every graduating student: there were moments of doubt, exhaustion, and uncertainty, yet there were also memories filled with joy, hope, and resilience. Like the song’s emotional message, time may eventually lead everyone toward different paths and destinations, but the memories created in ESSU Salcedo will forever remain engraved in their hearts. The classrooms may become quieter, the corridors may no longer witness their daily laughter, but the legacy of Batch 2026 will continue to live on.

For many graduates, the song became symbolic of their sacrifices and perseverance. Every lyric reflected the silent battles they overcame to finally wear their sal-ongs/sablays with pride and honor. Some endured financial struggles, personal hardships, academic pressure, and countless challenges, yet they remained steadfast in pursuing their dreams. Their graduation is not only a celebration of success, but also a testimony of courage, resilience, and unwavering determination.

As the melody of “Minsan” filled the venue during the graduation ceremonies, emotions overflowed among students, parents, mentors, and guests. It was more than nostalgia—it was a celebration of growth and transformation. The song reminded everyone that while endings are often painful, they are also beginnings of greater journeys ahead. The graduates may leave ESSU Salcedo Campus, but the values of excellence, accountability, friendship, and service that they learned within the institution will continue to guide them wherever life may lead.

12 May 2026, Salcedo Eastern Samar — Eastern Samar State University–Salcedo Campus honored its graduating students and awardees during the Pre-Commencement and Recognition Rites 2026 at the ESSU-Salcedo Old Gymnasium.

Anchored on the theme “Resilience in Conflict and Adversity: Upholding Excellence, Accountability, and Service in Pursuit of Shared Aspirations,” the event gathered university officials, faculty members, parents, guests, and students to celebrate academic achievement, perseverance, and service.

In his welcome address, Dr. Eduardo A. Cablao, Jr., Campus Administrator, congratulated the Class of 2026 and reminded the graduates that the ceremony marks not an end, but the beginning of a new journey.

He also encouraged the graduates to uphold the values of resilience, excellence, accountability, and service as they move forward beyond the university. He said these principles should serve as their foundation and compass as they pursue their aspirations and contribute to their communities.

“To our graduating students, today marks a milestone, but it is also the beginning of a new journey,” he said. “Graduation is not the end—it is the launchpad for applying what you have learned.”

The event also featured inspirational messages from guest speakers Mr. Jeson O. Nadonga and Ms. Katherine Joy S. Elem, who addressed the graduates and awardees as they prepared for the next chapter of their lives.

During the ceremony, diplomas were distributed to the graduates, while medals and awards were presented to honor students and outstanding awardees.

Eastern Samar State University Salcedo Campus proudly announces the outstanding performance of its graduates in the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT), with the production of two topnotchers and a total of 99 newly Licensed Professional Teachers, as released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on May 12, 2026. The Campus significantly exceeded the national passing rates, recording an 81.82% passing rate in the Elementary level compared to the national rate of 56.03% and an 80.65% passing rate in the Secondary level, surpassing the national average of 73.10%.

Under the leadership of Campus Administrator Dr. Eduardo A. Cablao, Jr., and through the unwavering commitment and guidance of the faculty and staff of the College of Education headed by Dean Dr. Christopher E. Duran, Eastern Samar State University Salcedo Campus proudly extends its warmest congratulations to Ms. Carmina S. Villaruel for securing 7th place nationwide with an outstanding rating of 93.80% and to Mr. Michael L. Ida for achieving 9th place nationwide with an impressive rating of 93.40% in the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers.

The University likewise commends all successful examinees for their remarkable accomplishment, including the 50 passers from the Elementary level and 49 passers from the Secondary level. The Office of the Guidance and Testing hereby informs all placement test takers that the scheduled placement examinations will be conducted tomorrow, May 11, 2026, instead of May 12, 2026.

This adjustment is made in view of the Pre-Commencement and Recognition Ceremonies scheduled on May 12, 2026. Please be advised that the designated venue and examination time schedule shall remain unchanged.

All examinees are encouraged to report on the revised examination date and strictly observe the given schedule.

8 May 2026, Salcedo, Eastern Samar — Eastern Samar State University–Salcedo Campus, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Salcedo through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, conducted “The Bigger One: Earthquake Disaster Preparedness Forum” at the New Gymnasium of ESSU-Salcedo Campus.

The forum aimed to strengthen public awareness, promote disaster preparedness, and equip participants with essential knowledge on earthquake and tsunami risks, safety measures, and community response.

Dr. Eduardo A. Cablao Jr., Campus Administrator of ESSU-Salcedo, delivered the welcome message and emphasized the importance of taking earthquake drills and safety protocols seriously. He reminded the participants that earthquakes can happen anytime and without warning, and that simple actions such as Drop, Cover, and Hold On, knowing evacuation routes, staying calm, and following instructions can save lives during an actual emergency.

Dr. Jeffrey S. Perez, Supervising Science Research Specialist from PHIVOLCS Manila, served as the resource speaker and discussed “The Bigger One: Earthquake Disaster Scenario in Salcedo, Eastern Samar.” His presentation provided participants with a better understanding of earthquake hazards, possible disaster scenarios, and the importance of science-based preparedness.

Mr. Arnold D. Peca, Local DRRM Officer of Salcedo, also discussed “Understanding National and Local Protocols on Earthquake and Tsunami Preparedness,” highlighting coordinated response, community participation, and awareness of disaster protocols.

The activity concluded with a closing message from Hon. Melchor L. Mergal, Municipal Mayor of Salcedo, who reaffirmed LGU-Salcedo’s commitment to disaster preparedness and community safety.

Anchored on the message “Prepare today. Protect tomorrow. Save lives,” the forum reminded everyone that while earthquakes cannot be prevented, their impact can be reduced through awareness, discipline, cooperation, and timely action.
