SPADES Roundtable: Semester Wrap-Up

The last two roundtable discussions of the Speech and Debate Society (SPADES) for the first semester were held on November 7 and November 26 at the College Library discussion rooms. The sessions marked the conclusion of our first-semester conversations, which had served as a plaform for informed reflection and critical engagement.

We are grateful to all participants who made time to join despite their busy academic schedules. We look forward to continuing these conversations in the coming term.

A refresher webinar on debate and argumentation was successfully conducted by the Speech and Debate Society (SPADES) on November 29, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM via Google Meet. Primarily targeted at club members, the session focused on analytical reasoning, speech construction, and delivery style.

The club would like to thank everyone who attended and actively engaged in the discussion. This initiative reflects our commitment to creating spaces that develop confident, articulate, and critically minded Louisian debaters.

An interdepartmental seminar is scheduled for the next semester as part of the preparations for the annual debate tournament. See you then!

Where Critical Minds Meet: SPADES Opens its Roundtable Season

The Speech and Debate Society (SPADES) has officially launched this yearโ€™s series of roundtable discussions, where members and guests exchange ideas, challenge perspectives, and broaden their understanding of contemporary issues.

Three sessions have already taken place this month: the first on October 2 at the First Floor Discussion Room of the college library, followed by the second on October 9 at Room 203 of the main building, and the third on October 10, once again in the library discussion room.

SPADES encourages everyone to stay engaged and fuel the conversations that inspire growth.

WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!

We extend our sincerest congratulations and gratitude to Ms. Camille Angeli Nartates and Mr. Andrei Justin Reyes, who proudly represented the Speech and Debate Society (SPADES) as the Ambassadress and Ambassador, respectively, during the College Student Council (CSC) Night, October 6.

Carrying SPADESโ€™ advocacy of promoting truth, justice, and wisdom through their sashes, they showed what SPADES stands for: a bold mind, powerful voice, and indomitable spirit.

Truly, they stood with power and represented with confidence! ๐Ÿ”ฅโ™ ๏ธโœŠ๐Ÿป

SPADES Club Orientation 2025โ™ ๏ธ

Guess who turned Room 227 of the Fr. Alfred Spincemaille, CICM College Building into a debate stage?

On September 27, 2025, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, SPADES kicked off its academic year with its club orientation. The highlight of the event was an engaging two-round mock debate that embodied the clubโ€™s commitment to critical thinking and meaningful discourse.

SPADES conveys its appreciation to members who, despite having concurrent academic and extracurricular activities, still found time to drop by in batches and take part in the event.

With this formal launch, the club reaffirms its mission to hone analytical minds and nurture a culture of reasoned dialogue throughout the year.

โ™ ๏ธ CLUB DEVELOPMENT WEEK 2025 CULMINATION DAY โ™ ๏ธ

We have reached a complete stop on the recently concluded Club Development Week 2025, but our shared journey resonates. Anchored on the theme โ€œBiyaheng Luwisyano: Iisang Kulay, Iisang Diwa,โ€ our expedition to Sitio 25 SPADES was not merely a destination, but a testament to the collective spirit and intellectual curiosity that echoes through the Louisian community. Your participation and enthusiasm have made this a truly inspiring event.

Brimming with connection, our booth transformed into a place where laughter blended with learning. We were thrilled to share not just our delectable pastries, snacks, and sodas, but also a test for one's critical thinking through the โ€œFact or Fakeโ€ game. Undoubtedly, it was a challenge to discern truth from falsehood, embodying our core advocacy: โ€œBoses. Isip. Talino. Gamitin. Hasain.โ€

As the beginning of our expedition ceases, a new voyage begins. If you possess a thirst for knowledge, a voice waiting to be heard, or a mind eager to be sharpened, your unique perspective is what we need to shape the future of the Speech and Debate Society.

Join us on the next trip! Letโ€™s embark on this together to forge a community of empowered speakers and critical thinkers. After all, the journey of a thousand words begins with a single voice for the pursuit of truth and the power of informed discourse.

We thank and congratulate the people behind the successful journey of SPADES through the Club Development Week 2025. Your ideas, passion, and active involvement have made Sitio SPADES a success.

SPADESโ€™ DAY 3-5 OF CLUB DEVELOPMENT WEEK โ™ ๏ธ

SEPTEMBER 3โ€“5, 2025 โ€” As the Club Development Week 2025 went on, the Speech and Debate Society (SPADES) of Saint Louis College (SLC) kept its booth buzzing with the same well-loved lineup of cookies, breads, Spam Musubi, and sodas. Students kept coming back for the snacks and the interactive game โ€œFact or Fake,โ€ where participants tested their wits and discernment.

The challenge sparked curiosity and laughter, while reflecting the clubโ€™s advocacy for awareness and critical thinking. By the close of the week, the SPADES booth had become a familiar stop for Louisians.

We thank all of those who supported and visited our club!
