On May 17, 2025, Sitio Layag in Barangay Taclobo, San Fernando, Romblon became the site of a groundbreaking moment—literally and figuratively—as 𝙍𝙤𝙢𝙗𝙡𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙡𝙖𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢 "𝘿𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙧 𝙀𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙮 𝙄𝙣𝙛𝙧𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚" through a ceremonial groundbreaking.

Led by the College of Engineering and Technology, and carried out in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Municipal Government of San Fernando, the event marked the formal beginning of a transformative initiative aimed at empowering indigenous communities through sustainable, science-based solutions.

This historic day also featured impactful 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 and a 𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙛𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙧-𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, a key innovation developed by the College of Engineering and Technology. The demonstration aimed to empower the indigenous Layag Tribe with access to clean, renewable energy while introducing practical applications of solar technology that address real community needs.

The activities mark a strong start in our shared mission to uplift marginalized communities through sustainable energy solutions, technical capacity-building, and inclusive innovation.

Romblon State University is now officially an 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙈𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙀𝙭𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙄𝙣𝙘. (𝙋𝘼𝙀𝙋𝙄) — a prestigious national organization that promotes excellence in extension, research, and community engagement across higher education institutions in the Philippines.

PAEPI is dedicated to strengthening the implementation of extension programs that address real-world problems through collaboration, innovation, and sustainable solutions — aligning closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We announce the appointment of Mr. Gregorio A. Florendo, Jr. as the new Director for the Extension Services and Community Engagement Office (RSU - ESCEO). Mr. Florendo will assume his role effective immediately.

The entire REDI team is confident that his leadership will guide the university toward greater heights in community service and engagement.
