For the freedom our forefathers fought for, may we remain worthy.

Today, we commemorate the 128th Philippine Independence Day โ€” a reminder that the liberty we enjoy was not freely given, but courageously claimed through sacrifice, resistance, and an unwavering belief in the Filipino nation.

In Laurel v. Misa, the Supreme Court recognized that sovereignty remains with the Filipino people and that allegiance to the legitimate government is not easily severed, even in times of occupation. Such principle reminds us that independence is not merely a historical event, but a continuing duty to protect the dignity, sovereignty, and identity of our nation.

As students of the law, may we honor our forefathers not only by remembering their struggle, but by upholding justice, defending truth, and serving the country with integrity.

Happy 128th Philippine Independence Day.
