The School of Advanced Studies (SAS) of Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-SFLU), has jumpstarted its Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) classes for School Year 2026–2027, opening the second season of international academic collaboration through its Master in Business Administration (MBA) program.

MBA students enrolled in Advanced Strategic Management under Dr. Caroline G. Pajimola began their academic and cultural exchange with peers from Saint Claret College Autonomous (SCC), Bengaluru, India. Through co-facilitation, real-time interaction, collaborative activities, and output presentations, the inaugural class provided a platform for students to examine strategic management concepts through diverse international perspectives.

The COIL initiative brings strategic management beyond the classroom by encouraging students to compare business environments, exchange insights on organizational challenges, and explore how strategic decisions may differ across cultural and institutional contexts. Such engagement helps develop critical thinking, cross-cultural communication, and collaborative problem-solving, competencies essential for future business leaders navigating an increasingly interconnected global economy.

The School of Advanced Studies (SAS) of Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-SFLU), in collaboration with Saint Claret College Autonomous (SCC), Bengaluru, India, finalized the topics and schedule for their upcoming Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) sessions for the Master in Business Administration (MBA) program during a matching session held on October 10, 2026.

The meeting brought together Dr. Nino Romyr Saavedra, Professor of SAS; Mr. Rudresh, Professor of SCC; and Dr. Leo Esteene L. Galap, Director of the Global Affairs Office (GAO). The faculty representatives discussed and aligned the session topics and schedules to ensure a well-coordinated and meaningful international learning experience for MBA students from both institutions.

With the arrangements in place, the MBA COIL collaboration is now ready to move forward. Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-SFLU) and the City Government of San Fernando, La Union, through its Legal Office, held an exploratory meeting on October 8, 2026 to discuss a potential partnership for the implementation of the Complementary Pathways (CPath) Program, an initiative that seeks to expand educational opportunities for Rohingya refugees.

Facilitated by the Global Affairs Office (GAO), the meeting aimed to explore how the two institutions could work together to support the program and contribute to the protection, well-being, and educational advancement of refugees through safe and regulated pathways to the Philippines.

The CPath Program is an initiative of the Philippine Government in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and select academic institutions. It provides selected Rohingya refugees with an opportunity to enter and stay in the Philippines through education while ensuring that their protection needs and basic rights are addressed.

Representing SLC-SFLU were Dr. Lea L. De Guzman, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Rev. Fr. Rumpearl Tenkings Isaac, CICM, Vice President for Mission and Identity; Ms. Rowena Kathleen H. Abalos, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Vice President for Finance; Dr. Niel Tristan Baga, Dean of Student Affairs; Dr. Leo Esteene L. Galap, Director of Global Affairs; and Ms. Gloria Sison, Head of the CICM Advocacies and College Extension Office. The City Government was represented by Atty. Cee Jaye L. Gumangan, Attorney III, and Ms. Richelle V. Fusilero, Legal Assistant II.

During the meeting, Dr. Galap presented an overview of the program and discussed possible areas of collaboration between the two institutions. The discussion was marked by a constructive exchange of ideas on how SLC-SFLU and the City Government could pool their respective resources, expertise, and institutional support to advance the program's objectives.

Beyond strengthening institutional partnerships, the initiative presents an opportunity for the College to extend its educational mission to learners whose circumstances may limit their access to education and other essential opportunities. By exploring partnerships that connect education with humanitarian action, the College reaffirms its commitment to forming individuals who are not only academically competent but also compassionate and responsive to the needs of the wider community.

The Global Affairs Office (GAO) of Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-SFLU) officially launched the Virtual International Cultural Exchange (VICE) Series with its first session, “The Culture Within Me,” on September 30, 2026, bringing together student leaders and young people from different cultural backgrounds for an exchange of experiences and perspectives. The VICE Series will feature six sessions throughout the year, with a session conducted each month.

The first session featured three youth speakers: Louis Fernando Ega of Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta, Indonesia; Ryan Niel De Guzman of Saint Louis University, Baguio City; and Theresia Christie of Universitas Katolik Parahyangan, Indonesia. The session was attended by student leaders representing various curricular and extracurricular clubs of SLC-SFLU.

VICE is a GAO project designed to provide students with an avenue and safe space to interact with peers from across the globe. Through conversations on culture and shared experiences, the initiative brings international engagement closer to students and creates opportunities for them to learn beyond the boundaries of the classroom. The program is managed by the Louisian Internationalization Student Ambassadors (LISA), providing student leaders with an active role in advancing internationalization within the SLC-SFLU community.

Beyond cultural exchange, VICE gives students an opportunity to develop confidence in engaging with international peers, appreciate perspectives shaped by different cultural contexts, and see their own culture as something they can share with and learn from others. Through initiatives such as VICE, SLC-SFLU continues to cultivate a student community that is open to the world while remaining grounded in its own cultural identity.

Dr. Leo Esteene L. Galap, Director of the Global Affairs Office of Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-SFLU), presented the institution’s best practices during the ICSXC 2026 pre-conference activities held in Kathmandu, Nepal, on September 22, 2026.

The sharing session brought together representatives from the co-host institutions from India, Nepal and Japan, along with academic leaders from both the co-host and host institutions. The participating institutions likewise presented their respective best practices, creating a meaningful platform for academic leaders and representatives to exchange experiences and perspectives.

The session served as an avenue for the participating institutions to benchmark their practices against one another, gain insights from different academic contexts, and identify approaches that may contribute to the continuous enhancement of their respective institutions. Such exchanges also foster a culture of openness, collaboration, and shared learning among international academic partners.

The engagement was conducted in line with the 𝐢𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 of the Global Affairs Office, which provides opportunities for the sharing of institutional and academic practices with international partners. Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-SFLU) and Phnom Penh Teacher Education College (PTEC), Cambodia conducted a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Lecturer Matching Session on September 16, 2026, marking the continuation of their international academic collaboration.

The session brought together lecturers from both institutions to explore possible course pairings, identify areas of academic alignment, and prepare for the second season of the SLC-SFLU–PTEC COIL program. The initiative follows the successful implementation of their first COIL collaboration, providing a strong foundation for another round of meaningful virtual academic engagement.

COIL is an internationalization program of the Global Affairs Office (GAO) that connects students and faculty from different countries through real-time classroom interaction. Through a series of virtual meetings integrated into regular courses, students gain opportunities to exchange perspectives, engage with peers from another educational and cultural setting, and develop competencies needed in an increasingly interconnected academic and professional environment.

The continuation of the SLC-SFLU–PTEC COIL program further expands opportunities for international exposure within the classroom. As part of the pre-conference activities of the ICSXC 2026, faculty members of Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-SFLU) engaged in a benchmarking session with their counterparts from St. Xavier’s College, Kathmandu, Nepal on September 22, 2026.

The engagement, conducted through the 𝐢𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 of the Global Affairs Office (GAO), brought together faculty members from SLC-SFLU and St. Xavier’s College representing Information Technology Management, Bachelor of Arts, Social Science, Psychology, and Microbiology. Through a sit-down dialogue, faculty members from both institutions shared their respective best practices in instruction, creating an opportunity for professional exchange and mutual learning.

Each group was given an opportunity to present its instructional practices and experiences, allowing the participants to gain perspectives on how teaching and learning are approached in another academic setting. Such benchmarking engagements provide faculty members with opportunities to reflect on their own practices, gain fresh insights, and identify ideas that may contribute to enriching the educational experience of students.

The discussion also looked toward possible areas of future collaboration, particularly international lectures, non-credit courses, and faculty exchange. Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-SFLU), through the Global Affairs Office (GAO), conducted an orientation for lecturers on Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) on September 15, 2026, in preparation for the 2nd season of the program implementation.

The orientation aimed to introduce and deepen the lecturers’ understanding of the dynamics, processes, and conduct of COIL. Deans and faculty members from the College of Arts, Sciences, Technology and Education (CASTE), College of Business and Accountancy (CBA), and School of Advanced Studies (SAS) participated in the session.

The activity follows the successful implementation of COIL in the previous school year and forms part of the GAO’s continuing efforts to strengthen internationalization within the classroom. Through the orientation, faculty members were provided with a clearer understanding of how COIL can be integrated into their courses and used to facilitate meaningful academic interaction with international counterparts.

COIL provides opportunities for students and faculty to internationalize classroom learning through real-time interaction with peers and counterparts abroad. By bringing international perspectives into regular academic activities, the program enables students to engage in cross-cultural exchange, broaden their understanding of global issues, and develop competencies that extend beyond the local classroom.
