𝗙𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | 𝗦𝗦𝗚 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗜𝗧 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗻, 𝘃𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

DECEMBER 4, 2025 - Dr. Sheena I. Sapuay-Guillen has officially stepped into her new role as Dean of the College of Information Technology (CIT) of the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid La Union Campus (DMMMSU-MLUC), following the appointment of former dean Dr. Alvin R. Malicdem as the new Chancellor.

Dr. Guillen served as Program Chair of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology for 5 years. Following this designation, she now holds the distinction of being the first woman to lead CIT, marking a historic milestone for the college. In 2022, she was recognized as University Faculty of the Year during the DMMMSU Foundation Anniversary. Under their administration, Dr. Guillen together with the dean and MIT chair, and working closely with the college's faculty and staff, CIT achieved back-to-back recognition as university Best Academic Unit in 2023 and 2024.

Speaking to InfoFLASH, Dr. Guillen shared some wisdom on her appointment as dean:

"I am thankful for the trust. I am humbled. I have fears, but with the strong support system I have at the college—people I truly consider family—and with the years I’ve spent serving this community, my work has become an expression of love."

“Let us bring CIT further toward innovation and global competitiveness,” she said. “We want our students to be industry-ready, our faculty empowered, and our programs at pace with emerging technologies. The goal is to level up what we already do best, learn from failures, improve continuously, and share the learning experience to bring light in others' pathways.”

Dr. Guillen also highlighted the importance of collaboration, cooperation and respect.

“CIT has always been a team in action. And as one quote says- teamwork turns individual strengths into collective power. I am fortunate to be surrounded by dedicated and committed faculty and staff, promising students and supportive stakeholders. Together, we will continue building a college that leads in IT education and felt by the community", she shared.

Her appointment received overwhelming support from the CIT community, including alumni who have seen her dedication firsthand.

Savannah Jane Ducusin, CIT alumna, expressed her joy over the announcement.

“Ma’am Sheena deserves this more than anyone,” Ducusin shared. “During my years in CIT, I saw how she worked tirelessly. She poured her heart into making sure we were given the best learning experience, and even beyond. This is a well-earned achievement.”

Ducusin added that Dr. Guillen’s commitment helped transform the college into a strong academic force.

“She helped bring CIT to new heights. Being part of that journey as a student is something I’m grateful for.”

As the college welcomes a new chapter under her leadership, the entire CIT community stands in full support of Dr. Guillen. Faculty members, staff, students, and alumni alike express confidence that she will continue the legacy of excellence and lead CIT toward even greater achievements.

"My commitment is to be intentional in the position I am entrusted with, always striving for the better. I will lead and I will serve." Dr. Guillen assured.

𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱: 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗘𝗥𝗗’𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽

The BeeSafe team proved their excellence and innovation as they domianted this year's ICIEERD Consortia's Best Paper and Best Poster Competiton (Undergraduate), earning 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 – 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 – 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 during the 3rd Regional Research, Development & Innovation Symposium Region 1 held at Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, City of Batac, Ilocos Norte, on November 26–28, 2025.

This remarkable achievement highlights the team’s brilliance, dedication, and commitment to advancing research and technology in the region. Their work, “BeeSafe: Building a Solar-Powered Multi Remote Sensing and Analytics for Beehive Health Monitoring,” stands as a testament to innovation with purpose.

Presented with excellence by Kissther Rose D. Ubungen, the project was authored by Ubungen, Prince Drei C. Cabalo, Bamby Warin B. Ramos, and Ralph Jacob S. Solar, under the guidance of adviser Dr. Manny R. Hortizuela.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | 𝗖𝗜𝗧 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱

Information Technology graduates from Mid La Union Campus earned a spot in the Outstanding Student Creative Research for College SIBOL Award with their study titled “BeeSafe: Building a Solar-Powered Multi Remote Sensing and Analytics for Beehive Health Monitoring.”

The team, comprised of Kissther Rose D. Ubungen, Prince Drei C. Cabalo, Bamby Warin B. Ramos, and Ralph Jacob S. Solar, under the guidance of Dr. Manny R. Hortizuela, will represent the university as one of the Northern Luzon finalists in the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits by Cluster (ClusteRICE) on October 14–15, 2025, in Nueva Vizcaya. The event will be hosted by the Philippine Science High School-Cagayan Valley Campus, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology–Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST–TAPI).

"We’re really thankful and happy just to be qualified as finalists. It already feels like a big achievement because we didn’t expect to reach this far. Even if we don’t win, we’ll still be proud knowing that we gave our best and that BeeSafe was recognized at this level,” shared team leader Ubungen.

The group's research introduces a solar-powered system for monitoring beehive health through remote sensing and analytics, promoting sustainable and data-driven beekeeping. This study also earned them the title of University Best Undergraduate Thesis in the Industrial Technology, Agricultural, and Biosystem Engineering category for Academic Year 2024-2025. #

Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) and the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) have formalized their partnership in advancing the province’s tourism sector through digital innovation.

In a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed during the La Union Tourism Summit 2025 at the La Union Convention Center on September 29, 2025, both parties committed to adopting and implementing “PASYAR: A Multi-Platform Application for the La Union Tourism Industry with Data Analytics.”

This back to back victory is a testament to the team’s unending brilliance, teamwork and passion, showing yet again, their strength and talent that they posses. You’ve shown that true innovation thrives where dedication meets purpose.

Guided by Dr. Alvin R. Malicdem, Dean of the College of Information Technology, the team — 𝗝𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗚. 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻, 𝗠𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶 𝗟. 𝗧𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗮𝘀, 𝗠𝗮𝘄𝗲𝗹 𝗢. 𝗔𝗯𝗮𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘅 𝗔. 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 proved that once again, skill, grit, and teamwork conquer all.
