The solemn purpose of Masonry . . .
is to make good men better.
It aims to:
• build moral character
• teach brotherly love, relief, and truth
• encourage service to God, country, family, and fellowmen
• promote self-discipline, integrity, and charity
• help a man seek light, wisdom, and virtue
Why “solemn”:
Because Masonry treats its teachings as serious, sacred, and meaningful, not merely social or ceremonial.
Briefly:
“The solemn purpose of Masonry is the moral, spiritual, and intellectual improvement of man, so that he may live uprightly and serve humanity more faithfully.”
