In 1860, George Frederick Stout was born in South Shields, England!

A brilliant philosopher and psychologist, Stout is best known for his Manual of Psychology (1898), which became a widely used textbook. He was elected Fellow of St John’s College, Cambridge in 1884 and later became Editor of Mind in 1891, turning it into Britain’s leading philosophical journal. He went on to teach as Lecturer in Moral Sciences at Cambridge, Wilde Reader in Mental Philosophy at Oxford, and Professor of Logic and Metaphysics at St Andrews (1903–1936). 🏫✨

Recognized for his extraordinary intellect, Stout was the first Anderson Lecturer in Comparative Psychology at Aberdeen, elected Fellow of the British Academy, received honorary degrees from Aberdeen, Durham, and St Andrews, and even served as President of the Aristotelian Society. He was also known for his contributions to Trope Theory.
