The Supreme Student Government (SSG) of President Ramon Magsaysay State University โ San Marcelino Campus, with the full support and guidance of Dr. Rico N. Falaminiano, OSAS and Student Organization Coordinator, successfully spearheaded SIBOL, a leadership development program designed to cultivate responsible, empowered, and socially conscious Ramonรญan student leaders. The activity aimed to strengthen the leadership capabilities of student leaders, deepen their understanding of sustainable leadership, and inspire them to become catalysts for positive change within the university and their respective communities.
The program commenced with the preliminaries, setting the tone for a meaningful and engaging leadership experience. This was followed by the welcome remarks of Dr. Rico N. Falaminiano, who emphasized the importance of student leadership, collaboration, and active participation in university initiatives. Subsequently, Dr. Ferdinand Tamoria, Officer-in-Charge of the Campus Director, delivered his inspirational message, encouraging student leaders to embrace their responsibilities with integrity, accountability, and dedication to service.
To formally introduce the resource speaker, Althea Maru Batioco, Vice President of the Supreme Student Government, presented Hon. Austin John Calubhay, former SSG President of Castillejos, who led the morning plenary session on Sustainable Leadership in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). His discussion focused on the importance of responsible and forward-thinking leadership in addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges. He highlighted how student leaders can contribute to the achievement of the SDGs through inclusive decision-making, environmental responsibility, community engagement, responsible resource management, and the implementation of student-led initiatives that promote equality, sustainability, and meaningful development. The session encouraged participants to recognize that leadership extends beyond holding a position; it requires taking concrete actions that create lasting and positive impacts.
In the afternoon, Hon. Carlos Ceejay Villanueva, Student Regent of President Ramon Magsaysay State University, facilitated a session entitled The Life of a Ramonรญan Student Leader. The discussion centered on the realities, responsibilities, and challenges of student leadership within the university. It highlighted the importance of balancing academic commitments with organizational responsibilities, upholding integrity and transparency, representing the voices and concerns of fellow students, and demonstrating empathy, resilience, and accountability in decision-making. The session also emphasized that being a Ramonรญan student leader means embodying the university's values, serving with humility, and transforming the trust of the student body into meaningful action. Participants were reminded that genuine leadership is not measured by titles or recognition, but by the lives touched, the voices represented, and the positive changes created through service.
Following the plenary sessions, the participants engaged in an exciting and enriching team-building activity that brought energy, joy, and camaraderie to the program. Through interactive challenges and collaborative exercises, the student leaders strengthened their communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Beyond the fun and excitement, the activity reinforced the value of trust, cooperation, mutual respect, and unity in achieving shared goals. It provided participants with an opportunity to build stronger connections with fellow student leaders while applying the lessons learned throughout the day.
The program concluded with the closing remarks of Hon. Carlos Ceejay Villanueva, Student Regent, who expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the entire Ramonรญan community for its support and participation in making SIBOL a success. He extended special appreciation to the SSG officers and committee members for their dedication, hard work, and commitment; to the university administration for its guidance and support; to Dr. Rico N. Falaminiano for his continued assistance and encouragement; and to University President Dr. Roy N. Villalobos for supporting initiatives that empower student leaders and strengthen student development. He emphasized that the success of SIBOL was a collective achievement made possible by the people who believed in the importance of nurturing responsible and service-oriented leaders.
Ultimately, SIBOL served as more than a leadership training program; it became a platform for growth, collaboration, and renewed commitment to student service. Through meaningful discussions, shared experiences, and team-building activities, the program encouraged Ramonรญan student leaders to cultivate their potential, strengthen their leadership foundations, and become agents of sustainable change. Just as a seed grows into a strong and fruitful tree, SIBOL seeks to nurture the leadership potential of every participant, inspiring them to grow with purpose, lead with integrity, and serve with a commitment to building a better Ramonรญan community.
