Project CLAN Clinches 1st Best Paper Award at PAEPI International Conference 2026 ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

"The true strength of an institution lies in its ability to translate academic rigor into meaningful community impact."

At the recently concluded Philippine Association of Extension Program Implementors (PAEPI) International Conference 2026, held at the TAG Resort Coron, this commitment to excellence was brilliantly validated. Project CLAN (Civics, Literacy, and Numeracy) for Agta IPs (Phase 3) was officially recognized as the 1st Best Paper in the Education Category, a testament to its dedication to transformative extension initiatives.

The award-winning paper was presented by Dr. Rockangel Jamoral, whose visionary leadership and strategic implementation guided the project through the complexities of indigenous education. The study showcased an extension model that is culturally relevant, impactful, and sustainable, addressing the literacy and civic needs of the Agta community through meaningful field engagement. ๐ŸŒŸ

This achievement is far more than an individual milestoneโ€”it is a triumph of collaborative synergy. The success of Project CLAN was strengthened by the collective expertise and unwavering dedication of its Component Leaders: Arnie T. Antonio, Elizabeth C. Barrera, Mark James E. Batag, Dr. Evelyn B. Cristobal, Apol Joy D. Cagayan, Dr. Ruby B. Dimas, Dr. Aisie O. Bete-Liban, Grace D. Yanos, and Dr. Jaypee A. Zipagan. Together, this powerhouse team from Isabela State University San Mariano Campus demonstrated how unified expertise can create extension work that resonates far beyond the academic sphere and into the heart of the community.

This international recognition further solidifies Isabela State University San Mariano Campus as a leader in extension and community engagement. By transforming research into real-world solutions, the team has set a remarkable example for future implementers to follow. ๐ŸŒโœจ

PROJECT CARE: EMPOWERING SAN MARIANOโ€™S HEALTH HEROES THROUGH INNOVATION AND WELLNESS

In a significant stride toward localized healthcare innovation, Isabela State University (ISU) San Mariano Campus hosted a specialized extension activity under Project CARE (Community Aid through Rehabilitative Equipment) last March 19, 2026. Held at the campus Function Room, the event titled "From Innovation to Application of a Hand-Held Massage Tool 100 for Local Health Improvement" was specifically designed to equip Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) of San Mariano, Isabela, with essential skills in pain management and community service.

Under the initiative of Project Leader Dr. Drolly P. Claravall, the activity adopted a holistic approach to community wellness by blending technical application, economic sustainability, and interpersonal soft skills.

The program commenced with Dr. Rockangel Jamoral, who emphasized that effective healthcare begins with compassion through his session on "Communication and Empathy in Community Health Work," teaching BHWs how to build deeper trust with their residents. This was followed by Dr. Maryann B. Mamauag, who discussed "Income Generation Opportunities in Utilizing the Hand-Held Massage Tool 100," highlighting how the device serves as both a medical aid and a potential tool for micro-entrepreneurship among volunteers. To provide a scientific foundation, Dr. Aisie B. Liban explored the physiological aspects of wellness in "Understanding Pain and Stress: Its Causes, Types, and Mechanism," explaining how rehabilitative tools intervene in the body's stress response. The training culminated in a hands-on demonstration by Dr. Drolly P. Claravall, who guided participants through the practical application and proper techniques of the Hand-Held Massage Tool 100.

Ultimately, the BHWs of San Marianoโ€”the communityโ€™s primary frontlinersโ€”left the session with an expanded toolkit for service and a renewed sense of empowerment. By bridging the gap between university-led innovation and grassroots application, Project CARE continues to prove that rehabilitative technology is most powerful when placed directly in the hands of the community.

"Through Project CARE, we aren't just handing out tools; we are fostering a culture of care, science-based relief, and self-reliance in our barangays." โ€” Project Team

๐Ÿ“Œ Extension and Training Services Update

Strengthening partnerships and advancing digital empowerment, Romnick M. Carlos, project leader of Project CODE: Creating Opportunities for Digital Empowerment, successfully conducted a meaningful consultation meeting last January 6, 2026, with Sonali Z. Edra, Principal of SMNHS Main.

The engagement served as a vital step in preparing for the upcoming extension activities to be implemented within the school community. The discussion emphasized a shared commitment to enhancing digital literacy, equipping learners with essential technological skills, and creating inclusive opportunities for empowerment through education.

This collaborative effort reflects the growing support of partner institutions in advancing innovative and sustainable programs that respond to the evolving needs of learners. Through Project CODE, the initiative continues to pave the way for accessible digital education and capacity-building for future-ready communities.
