Following the recent earthquake that struck on September 30, 2025, Cebu Technological University (CTU) has taken a proactive step to address the emotional and psychological impact experienced by its students and staff. In response, a Psychological First Aid (PFA) activity was launched at the CTU San Remigio Extension Campus open ground on October 8, 2025, spearheaded by dedicated guidance counselors and volunteers from CTU Main, CTU Daanbantayan, and CTU Danao Campus. The program will continue until October 9โ10, 2025.
The volunteers who led the initiative include Ms. Gelly Ann C. Baรฑares, Ms. Mildred A. Malapongit, Ms. Michelle P. Trangui, Ms. Rosemarie N. Abayon, and their team, who traveled to San Remigio to extend emotional support and mental health guidance to the affected students. The session aimed to provide a safe and supportive space for individuals to share their experiences, express their emotions, and begin the process of recovery after the unsettling event.
Also taking part in the activity were CTU San Remigioโs administrative staff and faculty members, including OIC- Campus Director Dr. Roda L. Larga, Nurse Leslie Joy Abucay, Sir Jhon Albert Ursal, Ma'am Sheng Saysis, Maโam Alleona Ursal, Maโam Sheryl Bonsubre, and Sir Sherwin Sanoria, who worked hand-in-hand with the volunteers to ensure the success of the event. Their presence underscored the importance of community unity and mental well-being within the campus.
In addition, ten student volunteers from various programsโBachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE), Bachelor of Technical-Livelihood Education (BTLEd), Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM), and Bachelor of Industrial Technology (BIT)โactively participated in the program. Their involvement demonstrated the spirit of compassion, solidarity, and volunteerism that CTU continuously instills among its students.
The PFA sessions serve not only as an immediate psychological intervention but also as a reminder that emotional healing is just as vital as physical safety in the aftermath of disasters. The activity encouraged participants to acknowledge their emotions, rebuild a sense of safety, and strengthen resilience as a university community.
Through this collaborative effort, CTU continues to embody its mission of holistic development and care for its constituents, proving that even in the face of adversity, compassion and unity remain at the heart of the Technologist spirit.
