𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | ISPSC–Sta. Maria’s Locquiao secures 4th place in Photojournalism-Filipino

Locquiao of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘉𝘶𝘨𝘭𝘦, the official student publication of the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC)–Sta. Maria Campus, secured 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺-𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗼 during the ISPSC Systemwide Press Conference held on October 13.

The event gathered student journalists from the seven ISPSC campuses to showcase their skills, creativity, and dedication to campus journalism across various categories.

Locquiao’s achievement highlights the talent and perseverance of student journalists in capturing meaningful stories through visual storytelling, bringing pride to the ISPSC–Sta. Maria Campus community.

The 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 – 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 (PSABE-PPG) congratulates Locquiao on this achievement and commends the dedication and hard work demonstrated throughout the competition.

𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧 1 𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐬 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐨𝐩 60

Seven (7) higher education institutions (HEIs) from Region 1 have qualified for the Top 60 of the Enactus Philippines National Competition & Innovation Summit 2026 – Early-Stage Project Competition Track, selected from more than 200 student-led social innovation projects nationwide.

The Region 1 qualifiers are:

The Top 60 teams will compete on October 8–10, 2026, in Manila. The national champion will have the opportunity to represent the Philippines at the Enactus World Cup 2026 in São Paulo, Brazil, where national champion teams from Enactus countries worldwide will showcase their entrepreneurial solutions.

SILLAG Region 1 partnered with Enactus Philippines in inviting HEIs from the region to the Northern and Southern Luzon cluster-based online information sessions on August 22, 2026.

Enactus Philippines brings together tertiary students, academic advisors, and business leaders to create positive social and economic impact through entrepreneurial action and innovation, supporting student-led solutions to real-world challenges.

The participation of seven Region 1 HEIs in the national Top 60 highlights the region’s growing engagement in student innovation and entrepreneurship.

𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗔, 𝗜𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗼𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗿 — Two research teams from the 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗕𝗦𝗔𝗕𝗘) program have been selected as recipients of the 𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗧 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗸𝘀𝗶𝗸: 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁, recognizing their innovative research projects that aim to improve post-harvest operations and support local farming communities.

One research team, composed of 𝗠𝗿. 𝗠𝘆𝗸𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘇 𝗕. 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘀, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗩𝗲𝗲𝗷𝗮𝘆 𝗟. 𝗧𝗮𝗰𝘂𝘆𝗰𝘂𝘆, 𝗠𝘀. 𝗜𝘃𝘆 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹 𝗩. 𝗢𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗴, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗥𝗲𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗻 𝗕. 𝗧𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗿. 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗱𝗮, received the grant for their project titled “𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗨𝗧 – 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗳-𝗖𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘀: 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻, 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.” The innovation is designed to improve onion post-harvest operations by providing a portable and efficient leaf-cutting solution for small-scale farmers.

Meanwhile, another BSABE research team composed of 𝗠𝘀. 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗠. 𝗔𝘁𝗶𝘄𝗮, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗗𝗵𝗼𝗲𝗹 𝗝𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗗. 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮, 𝗠𝘀. 𝗥𝘂𝗯𝘆 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗖. 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗼, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝘀. 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆 𝗠. 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 earned the development grant for their study titled “𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗗𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘆, 𝗜𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗼𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗿.” The project aims to enhance the drying process of Robusta coffee beans, helping improve post-harvest quality and providing direct support to local coffee farming communities.

The two research teams are set to formally receive their grant awards during the 𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗧 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗸𝘀𝗶𝗸: 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 on 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟳, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, at the 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗧 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘂𝗺 in 𝗧𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴, 𝗩𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗜𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗼𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗿.

The recognition highlights the BSABE program's growing contribution to agricultural research and innovation, demonstrating how student-led research can develop practical technologies that improve farming practices, strengthen local livelihoods, and contribute to the advancement of the agricultural sector.

Ang tunay na pag-unlad ay hindi dapat isinusulong kapalit ng lupang sakahan, kalikasan, at kabuhayan ng mamamayan. Kapag ang lupaing nagbibigay ng pagkain ay isinakripisyo para sa malalaking proyekto, hindi lamang lupa ang nawawala, pati ang kinabukasan ng ating mga magsasaka.

Ang lupa ay hindi lamang yamang likas. Ito ang pinagmumulan ng pagkain, kabuhayan, at buhay ng bawat Pilipino.
