General information

Why was it organized? The AICAP envisioned as a gathering of the student councils from Adventist Higher Educational Institutions in the Philippines, a place that can serve as venue for airing of their concerns and the effective address of the issues facing them. The AICAP also aims to enhance relations between fellow councils from our sister schools. This will be done through various and regular joint activities between the Association and the councils as well through regular meetings. The AICAP wishes also to serve as a sort of "clearinghouse" where councils can share ideas on how to better serve as the representatives of their respective studentry. The formation of the AICAP is viewed as an act that fulfills a particular need: that of an organization for student councils weary of radicalization - or the alienation that comes with being part of an organization considered radical - and for a venue from which their needs and concerns can be properly and effectively addressed. The AICAP is seen as the National Front of the Association in addressing the issues and concerns of the Filipino Adventist Youth in the National Government. The AICAP will complete the 'other side of the coin' of Adventist Youth Movement, AMICUS as serving the Adventist Students in non-Adventist Colleges and AICAP as serving the Adventist Students in Adventist Colleges. The AICAP is suggested to be the support arm of AMICUS especially in leadership and spiritual training. What can student councils get from the AICAP? The first should be obvious: there is strength in numbers. Acting alone, the resources, linkages and influence of a single student council may only get it so far. Let us be frank about it: not every single student council can be the ones from UP Diliman or Ateneo de Manila, who wield resources, connections and influence enough to act on their own if they wish it. Yet these two are prominent and active members of their respective organizations and actively seek cooperative actions with other organizations and schools. The voice of several councils acting and speaking in concert can accomplish so much more that a single council speaking alone amidst the cacophony of ism-slogans and bureaucracy. And there are the linkages. Being part of an organization eases the process of networking, whether with other schools or with other entities like government agencies, NGOs and corporations. Then, there is the transfer of ideas from one school to another.
