Bridging classes will officially start on June 8, 2026. All participants are encouraged to attend regularly and actively take part in the sessions.

The Commission on Higher Education(CHED) Regional Office VIII is officially accepting applications for the Fiscal Year 2026 Scholarships for Staff and Instructors’ Knowledge Advancement Program (SIKAP) Grants.

This call invites eligible academic personnel from higher education institutions to apply for funding across Region VIII's updated List of Approved Delivering Higher Education Institutions (DHEIs) and Programs.

Interested personnel are directed to visit the official webpage to review the guidelines, scholarship benefits, requirements, and application steps before submitting documents for the upcoming monthly timelines.

Southern Leyte State University–Tomas Oppus conducts monitoring and evaluation for Project Write It Right this May 19, 2026, in selected barangays of LGU Tomas Oppus. The activity is spearheaded by the University Monitoring and Evaluation Head, Ms. Adelfa Diola, together with the SLSU-TO Extension Services staff: Ms. Ma. Jovillea T. Palanca, Extension Coordinator; Mr. Clint Mate, Clerk; and Mr. Jayson Orais, Project Leader, from the English Education program. The team visits selected barangays to interview barangay officials and assess the project’s implementation, outcomes, and overall impact on participants.

According to the Extension Services Office, the monitoring activity ensures that Project Write It Right continues to meet its objectives while identifying areas for enhancement and possible expansion to benefit more local government units in the future.

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) takes part in an exploratory meeting with the Government Procurement Policy Board – Technical Support Office (GPPB-TSO) on May 19, 2026, via Zoom, to discuss a possible institutional partnership for the implementation of the New Government Procurement Act (NGPA) Caravan.

The initiative is significant not only for SLSU but also for the broader public sector in Eastern Visayas. Through the NGPA Caravan, the University helps capacitate government agencies, local government units, suppliers, observers, civil society representatives, and end-users on the reforms introduced under RA No. 12009. These reforms are expected to strengthen transparency, accountability, efficiency, competition, professionalization, and integrity in public procurement.

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) undergoes a two-day GADTIMPALA onsite validation by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), CHED Central and Regional Office, as assessors evaluate its Gender and Development (GAD) initiatives, gender mainstreaming efforts, and gender-responsive programs across campuses. Leading the validation are Ms. Jocelyn Balanag and Ms. Sol Theresa Logo (CHED CO), and Ms. Clehenia Aurora B. San Juan, Mr. Marven Mosquida, and Ms. Reia Paulyne Gordovez (PCW CO). SLSU reaffirms its commitment to inclusive education and gender-responsive governance aligned with the UN SDGs.

Carrying the theme, “Suroy ta! Exploring the Language and Culture of the Philippines,” the virtual event highlights the importance of promoting the Filipino language and strengthening cultural understanding among international learners and participants.
