With grateful hearts, we share that the donations collected for the victims of the fire incident in Brgy. Almendras-Cogon last April 17, 2026 have officially been distributed.

Through your generosity, we were able to provide donated clothes, food packs, and other necessary materials purchased from the funds raised. Every contribution—big or small—has reached families in need and brought comfort during this difficult time.

From the bottom of our hearts, we extend our sincerest gratitude to the entire SorSU community, NSTP Kaagapay (Main Campus and Castilla Campus), SORSU DRRM-KALASAG, students, faculty, and everyone who took part in this initiative. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who continues to support the victims of the recent fire incident in Brgy. Almendras-Cogon last April 17, 2026.

Through the initiative of the NSTP Kaagapay, a campus-wide donation drive was conducted across Sorsogon State University – Sorsogon City Campus. Kaagapay Volunteers actively went around different colleges, offices , and common areas to personally reach out and collect donations from students, faculty, and staff.

With these collective efforts, we are grateful to share that the total funds raised have now reached ₱11,380. These donations were gathered through face-to-face solicitation inside the campus and through voluntary financial contributions sent via GCash.

All proceeds will be carefully accounted for and allocated to support the immediate and continuous needs of the affected families, including food, basic necessities, and other essential supplies.

This milestone reflects the genuine compassion and unity of the SorSU community. You have truly embodied what it means to be a pamantasang may puso.

Together, we rise, rebuild, and stand as one community. 🧡

𝗔𝗣𝗶𝗥: 𝗔𝗕𝗔𝗞𝗔𝗗𝗔 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟭 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗞𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗢𝗳𝗳!

Through a community orientation, profiling activity, and reading activity carried out on September 8th, the NSTP-LTS students of Sorsogon State University succeeded in launching their first week of the project, “APiR: ABAKADA (Advancing Proficiency in Reading: Ang Batang Angat ang Kaalaman, Abot-tanaw ang Daan sa Kaniyang Ambisyon)”, at San Lorenzo Integrated National School, Barangay Bibincahan, Sorsogon City.

The NSTP-LTS students, assisted by Ms. Mylene Lascano and Sophia Millen, led the program.

In this activity, the team introduced the purpose of the program, orienting the parents and teachers to the activity and conducting a profiling of each child in order to determine their level of reading proficiency. The information obtained during the profiling of the students will be essential in determining whether the activities of the program meet the needs of the children to be served and to support Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education for All.

The active involvement of all students, parents, and teachers made this activity especially meaningful to all participants. Working together, they created an inviting and positive place for children to learn. Children were excited and facilitators worked to create an atmosphere of support and encouragement for each child. Through this cooperation, both the community of San Lorenzo and the NSTP students have developed a strong bond from the beginning.

The first week marks the beginning of a nine-week journey which will help the children develop their reading abilities as well as create self-confidence in the process. This is the goal of APiR: ABAKADA. It’s more than transforming the ability to read – it’s about empowering the child with confidence, inspiring dreams and coming together as a unified community in order to give each child a better opportunity to learn and succeed!

Following our recent needs assessment for our fellow residents in Brgy. Almendras-Cogon who were affected by the fire incident on April 17, we have identified key items that are essential for their daily recovery.

We are calling on our community to help us provide these necessities as our neighbors work to get back on their feet.

• Cooking Utensils (Lutuan)
• Hygiene Essentials: Alcohol, Soap, Shampoo, Toiletries, Toothbrush & Toothpaste
• Laundry Supplies (Pang-laba)
• Infant/Child Needs: Diapers (Sizes S, M, L) & Milk (Gatas)
• Food Items: Biscuits (for the children), Coffee (Kopiko Brown), and other non-perishable goods.

These items are crucial in helping our fellow residents maintain their health and sanitation as they navigate this difficult transition.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has opened their hearts to support the residents of Brgy. Almendras-Cogon following the fire incident on April 17, 2026. To date, we have raised a total of ₱2,986, which has already been utilized to provide immediate aid.
