Sorsogon State University (SorSU) marks another milestone in its sustainability journey, ranking 2nd among participating higher education institutions in Region V (Bicol Region), 65th in the Philippines, 640th in Asia, and 1,070th worldwide in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.
The achievement is particularly significant as it marks SorSU's first participation in the global ranking, reflecting the University's continuing efforts and initiatives toward building a more environmentally responsible and sustainable academic community.
Initiated by Universitas Indonesia in 2010, UI GreenMetric is a global university ranking system dedicated to assessing and promoting sustainability among higher education institutions. The ranking has traditionally assessed universities across key areas such as Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, Education and Research, and Governance and Digitalization.
The achievement was made possible through the collective efforts of the University administration, led by SorSU President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus along with the hardwork and support of SorSU's campuses, colleges, offices, and units, as well as its faculty members, personnel, students, and other members of the University community whose programs, practices, documentation, and contributions supported the University's sustainability initiatives.
More than just a recognition, this milestone reinforces SorSU's continuing responsibility to translate its sustainability commitments into meaningful institutional practices and measurable impact. As a Pamantasang may Puso, the University remains committed to cultivating a community where education, innovation, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility contribute to a more sustainable future.
