𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞: Normalistas from the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (BAPoS) bagged the Best Paper award for the Political Institutions and Systems category during the Biennial International Conference on Politics and Democracy in Southeast Asia (PoDSEA) 2025, held via Zoom, Wednesday, November 26.
Besting 30 other research entries across Southeast Asia were fourth-year students Glenn Arthur Faller, Jules Galazan, Kristina Cassandra Cilmar, Neo Lourenz Fabi, and Ma. Eliza Cayas with their study titled “Intergovernmental Dynamics in Health Governance: Institutional Performance Under the Philippines’ Universal Health Care Act.”
Further, the said paper was also co-researched by Mykaella Noelle Gerona, Ma. Samantha Fabi, Kurt Jaypee Del Rosario, Jared Tristan Delgado, and Nash Jom Hebreo.
In an interview with Fabi, he shared that they aim for their study to gain international recognition and contribute to improving universal healthcare in other countries.
“We held onto the hope that our study would be recognized internationally. Even though our research is rooted in the Philippine context, we believe the insights can help other nations strengthen their own universal health care systems and improve accountability,” he said.
It can be recalled that the said team also received the Best Oral Presenter award for the same study during the third Nemesio Prudente International Research Conference, which was organized by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) on November 15.
With the theme “Political Studies and Exploring Democratic Renewal in Southeast Asia,” the virtual conference was spearheaded by the Department of Political Science of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta and the Department of Political Science of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman.
