The SK Learning Resource Project is designed to support the academic development of students in the community by sourcing materials from reputable publishers and distributors, including coordination with DepEd Tacloban, ensuring that every learner has what they need to succeed.

From over 20 competing schools, the team advanced through the online preliminaries, broke into the Top 12 semifinals, dominated their cluster, and ultimately finished as the 2nd Best Team in the country.

From humble beginnings to the national stage, this achievement is more than just a win, it is proof that excellence thrives beyond traditional centers. The journey of Eastern Disruptors reflects grit, community, and the quiet power of belief: in one another, in UP Tacloban, and in the idea that potential only needs the chance to be realized.

In Eastern Visayas, where typhoons repeatedly disrupt climate-sensitive livelihoods, the consequences of disaster are not only environmental, they are profoundly economic. Every storm does not simply destroy infrastructure; it erodes already fragile sources of income, destabilizes food production, weakens local markets, and pushes vulnerable households deeper into cycles of precarity.

More than a livelihood initiative, Project EcoSoilMates recognizes that resilience is not merely the ability to withstand shocks, but the capacity to recover without being pushed further into vulnerability. In disaster-prone communities, this means building systems that protect not only homes and harvests, but also incomes, bargaining power, food security, and long-term productive capacity. By promoting livelihood diversification, value-adding strategies for agricultural surplus, and reduced dependence on middlemen, the project responds to a critical reality: communities cannot meaningfully “bounce back” if the local economy they return to remains structurally weak.

𝐈𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐬, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞. 𝐈𝐭 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠.

In parallel, the summit also recognized Project POSOble, proposed by JJC Tacloban Sinirangan, UP Halcyon, and the UP Tacloban Student Council. This project received ₱50,000 in funding to expand community-based water pump access, bringing clean water to far-flung communities across Tacloban City and Leyte. Together, EcoSoilMates and POSOble emphasized how youth-led initiatives are tackling the twin challenges of climate vulnerability and essential resource access in Eastern Visayas.

UPCAT 2027 APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN for incoming new first-year students for AY 2027-2028.

Applicants must fill out and submit their Form 1 in the online portal from 03 March to 30 March 2026 to take the exam on 01 and 02 August 2026.

Current Grade 11 students this SY 2025-2026 who will graduate senior high school by SY 2026-2027, or current Grade 12 students who have not taken the UPCAT in the previous cycles are eligible to apply.

School officials must fill out and confirm their students in the Form 2A portal from 03 March to 10 April 2026, for applicants to receive their test permit in July 2026.

Applicants must then revisit the portal after the exam, starting 03 August until 24 August 2026, to fill out their grades for Grades 8, 9, 10, and 11 in the Form 2B portal. They must also submit the hard copy certified true copy of their SF-10 or Student Permanent Record to the UP Office of Admissions located inside UP Diliman, Quezon City.
