LOOK: 2nd UB-CON Health Education Summit 2025 Successfully Held at GCGMMC
On May 9, 2025, nursing students from the University of Bohol – College of Nursing (UB-CON) gathered at Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center (GCGMMC) for the 2nd UB-CON Health Education Summit, themed:
“HEALTH empowerED 2.0: Strengthening Communities through Student-Led Health Education and Road Safety Advocacy.”
This culminating activity for NCM 102N Health Education—under the guidance of Clinical Instructors Mark Vincent Sarigumba and Nurse Rocky Camaligan—celebrated the passion, commitment, and leadership of nursing students from sections Crystal, Garnet, Opal, Peridot, Ruby, and Zircon. With courage and conviction, these future nurses stepped out of the classroom to lead health initiatives that make real impacts in communities.
The summit also strengthened collaboration between the academic and healthcare sectors. GCGMMC’s Public Health Unit and Nursing Service Office played vital roles by showcasing best practices in health promotion, particularly through:
Best Practice Sharing: Nursing Service Health Education by selected Nursing Administration personnel
Best Practice Sharing: Health Promotion by the R.O.C.K.S. Committee
One of the key highlights was the inspirational message on Road Safety delivered by Provincial DOH Office (PDOHO) Health Program Officer Diane Bernales, who emphasized the urgent need to treat road safety as a public health priority. She challenged the students to use their voice and influence as future nurses to advocate for safer roads, responsible driving behaviors, and increased awareness on the alarming rate of road crashes in the province.
In response, students showcased their learning and creativity through impactful outputs and activities such as:
Health Education Sessions with patients and hospital personnel using road safety flyers
Flipcharts on the Healthy Pilipinas 7 Healthy Habits
Health Education Case Study Presentations
Elevator Pitch Presentations on the 7 Healthy Habits
Health Education Quiz Bee: The Final Battle
Indeed, it was a powerful day of learning, advocacy, and student empowerment—a milestone in cultivating compassionate, community-centered nursing leaders. The summit stands as a testament to UB-CON’s commitment to health education and the vision of ready to lead change.
