๐‰๐”๐’๐“ ๐ˆ๐: The Technology Commercialization Section led by Dir. Noel A. Catibog conducted the Terminal Review of the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) program in Central Visayas under the overall leadership of Dr. Angeline B. Elegio of Bohol Island State University (BISU).

Hosted by Holy Name University (HNU), it was attended by University President Fr. Ruel F. Lero who warmly welcomed the participants and CVAARRDEC Consortium Director Dr. Ivy Corazon A. Mangaya-ay who underscored the importance of collaboration. Participating institutions include Cebu Technological University (CTU), Cebu Institute of Technology โ€“ University (CIT-U), and Negros Oriental State University (NOrSU).

In his message, Dir. Catibog challenged the teams to effectively present outputs and impact to provide a compelling basis for continued support for Phase 2, particularly in light of current global developments and funding priorities that require the funding agency to carefully allocate resources.

A forward planning session is being conducted today, March 17, to strategize for the next steps and target deliverables for the proposed Phase 2 of the program.

Last February 21, 2026, Holy Name University (HNU) and Baybay sa Taloto officially strengthened their partnership through a Technology Licensing Agreement for the technology โ€œCoconut Embryo Salad Dressing.โ€

This agreement marks another step forward in bringing HNU-developed technologies closer to the community. Through this collaboration, the technology will be utilized to support local enterprise, open livelihood opportunities, and promote the use of locally available resources.

More than just a formal partnership, this initiative reflects a shared commitment to innovation, community development, and sustainable growth. It highlights how research and creativity from the academe can translate into real opportunities for local organizations and entrepreneurs.

The Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Program in Central Visayas, in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Bohol, Department of Trade and Industryโ€“Bohol, and the Development & Acceleration Support for Innovation Growth (DASIG) Consortium, successfully held the Regional Technology Pitching Competition titled โ€œRAISE Forward: Igniting Innovation through Pitching and Technology Promotion in Central Visayasโ€ on October 8โ€“9, 2025 at the Ceremonial Hall, New Capitol Building, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

RAISE Forward showcased innovative technologies and solutions developed by changemakers in the agri-aqua and natural resources sectors across Central Visayas. The event provided a platform for fostering partnerships among technology providers, investors, and key stakeholders to support the growth and scalability of emerging technologies in Region VII.

The 2-day event, hosted by Bohol Island State University (BISU), was participated in by Holy Name University (HNU), BISU, Cebu Technological University (CTU), Cebu Institute of Technologyโ€“University (CIT-U), and Negros Oriental State University (NorSU), along with consortium members from CVAARRDEC.

On September 29 to October 1, 2025, Holy Name University conducted the second of the training series โ€œClaim Drafting and Online Filing Applicationโ€ at the Grade School Educational Media Center. The three-day training aimed to further strengthen the universityโ€™s commitment to enhancing intellectual property (IP) awareness and capability-building among its internal stakeholders, particularly the designated IP Team, by developing their technical skills in claim drafting and online filing application.

The activity encompassed key topics essential to effective patent drafting and protection, including an Overview of Claims, Claim Structure and Format, and Claim Drafting.
Specifically, it sought to:

โ—‹ enhance the participantsโ€™ understanding of the fundamental principles and structure of patent claims;
โ—‹ develop the participantsโ€™ technical skills in preparing and drafting precise and well-structured claims; and
โ—‹ strengthen the capability of the universityโ€™s IP Team in patent specification and claim drafting.

The three-day training was facilitated by Dr. Maria Paz J. Espiritu and Prof. Maria Isabel Abucejo, who shared their knowledge and practical insights in the field of intellectual property (IP). The activity brought together the members of the universityโ€™s IP Team, strengthening their capability to assist in the preparation, drafting, and protection of the institutionโ€™s intellectual outputs.

Holy Name University continues to uphold its commitment to building a stronger innovation ecosystem through the RAISE Program and other IP-related initiatives, ensuring that research-based ideas are developed into useful and well-protected technologies.

The two-part National IP Valuation Training for RAISE Batch 2 concluded with its graduation ceremony on August 15, 2025, at Patio by Balai Norte, San Juan, La Union, led by the DOST-PCAARRD Technology Transfer and Promotion Division (TTPD) in collaboration with the Association of PAQE Professionals, Inc. (APP).

A total of 57 participants completed the IP Valuation Training, with the first part conducted in Iloilo City last July and the second part held this August in La Union, hosted by the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), respectively.

The event provided an engaging platform for knowledge-sharing, showcasing of innovations, and building connections that promote the application of research in real-world settings.

On May 28โ€“29, 2025, Holy Name University conducted the Intellectual Property Masterclass (IPMC) Re-echo Training at the Grade School Educational Media Center. The two-day training aimed to reinforce the universityโ€™s efforts in strengthening intellectual property (IP) awareness and capability-building among its internal stakeholders, particularly the designated IP Team.

The activity covered essential topics that are foundational to effective IP management, including An Overview of Intellectual Property, Patent Search, and Invention Spotting.

The re-echo training was designed to achieve the following objectives:

โœ… To deepen the participantsโ€™ understanding of key intellectual property concepts;
โœ… To enhance the teamโ€™s technical competencies in conducting patent searches and analyzing IP landscapes; and
โœ… To develop skills in spotting potential inventions that may be protected and utilized for the benefit of the university and the wider community.

This capacity-building activity was facilitated by Dr. Maria Paz Espiritu and Prof. Maria Isabel Abucejo, both of whom have extensive experience in intellectual property education and management. The event was actively participated in by the members of the university's Intellectual Property Team, who are tasked with supporting the institutionโ€™s ongoing initiatives in innovation and IP protection.
