The Community Extension Program of the Northern Mindanao Region 19, in a dynamic partnership with Bachelor of Library and Information Science, recently spearheaded a transformative initiative at Migtugsok Mobile School in Upper Cugman. Coordinated alongside the faculty and students of Tagoloan Community College, this project focused on the dual mission of environmental stewardship and educational growth. By combining a large-scale tree-planting activity with a strategic turnover of library resources, the initiative highlighted a collective commitment to nurturing both the natural landscape and the academic potential of the next generation.

The event commenced with participants working side-by-side to plant seedlings, symbolizing a rooted commitment to a greener future for the local community. Following this hands-on engagement, the formal program was ushered in by an enthusiastic welcome from School-in-Charge, Ma'am Jeane Fe Z. Llaban, and followed by powerful messages from Eagle Dr. Romel Rellon and Governor Alene Valencia. Their words of encouragement ignited a spirit of service among the volunteers, emphasizing that true leadership is found in uplifting others through consistent, compassionate action and community advocacy.

A major highlight of the day was the immersive storytelling and shared reading session, where BLIS students brought books to life through expressive reenactments that captivated the young learners. This interactive energy flowed directly into the turnover of bookshelves and library materials, which were personally donated and carefully curated by the BLIS students to enhance the schoolโ€™s learning environment. The day concluded with a joyful shared lunch, leaving behind a legacy of expanded horizons and a strengthened foundation for literacy at Migtugsok Mobile School.

Day 2 of the BLIS Educational Tour brought students to the vibrant city of Bislig, Surigao del Sur, where learning continued beyond the classroom. Following a successful first day, participants began their morning with an early breakfast and a prompt 7:30 AM departure, demonstrating discipline, time management, and readiness for another day of exploration. The journey itself reflected the importance of adaptabilityโ€”an essential skill that students continue to develop throughout this immersive experience.

The day unfolded with a balance of cultural discovery and nature appreciation. The group first gathered for lunch at The Aperรณ, allowing participants to rest and recharge. They then visited the International Doll House, where a diverse collection of dolls showcased traditions and cultures from around the world. The journey continued to the breathtaking Tinuy-an Falls, where students experienced the grandeur of its cascading waters. To end the afternoon, the group headed to the Bislig Baywalk, capturing memorable moments along the scenic coastline.

As the day progressed, participants proceeded to Bislig Highland Farm for an early dinner and a meaningful program. The program opened with welcoming remarks from Ms. Jessica D. Caubat, followed by inspiring messages from the College Dean Dr. Romel U. Rellon and MICE Head Agency Sarah Jane Khu, highlighting the significance of the tour in shaping studentsโ€™ academic and professional growth. The program concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Juvelyn Teodora, expressing appreciation to all participants and organizers. The Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) Educational Tour, held on March 24โ€“26, 2026, officially began its Day 1 in Butuan Cityโ€”marking the start of a meaningful journey that bridges classroom learning with real-world experience. Students and faculty from Tagoloan Community College embarked on an immersive academic and cultural exploration, visiting key institutions and heritage sites across the city.

The day commenced with academic visits to Father Saturnino Urios University and Caraga State University, where students participated in orientations, guided campus tours, and interactive discussions with librarians and academic staff. These engagements provided valuable insights into university systems, library operations, and diverse approaches to information management, allowing participants to compare institutional practices and deepen their professional understanding.
In the afternoon, the tour transitioned into cultural enrichment with visits to the Butuan City Library, where students witnessed innovative literacy initiatives, followed by an exploration of the Butuan National Museum. A highlight of the day included a visit to the historic Balangay Boat Site, where students encountered the iconic Balangay boatsโ€”symbolizing the rich maritime heritage of the region.

Throughout the day, students actively engaged in learning, captured memorable moments, and built stronger connections with one another. More than just a series of visits, Day 1 reflected a holistic educational experienceโ€”combining academic exposure, cultural appreciation, and personal growth. As the day concluded with dinner and hotel check-in, participants carried with them new knowledge, broader perspectives, and a deeper appreciation of both their field and the heritage of Butuan City.
