Introducing UMApp: The University of Makati Disaster Management Mobile Application

Disaster preparedness begins with being informed.

To strengthen safety and emergency preparedness within the University, the University of Makati Disaster Management Mobile Application (UMApp) was developed by the Higher School ng UMak – STEM Batch 2024 through the generous funding support of the Makati City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (Makati DRRM Office). UMApp was created to provide the UMak community with quick access to campus evacuation routes, emergency hotlines, disaster preparedness guides, and other important safety information whenever it is needed.

The application was led by Crystalline Joyce L. Bragas, the project's Lead Developer, together with Angelo Joaquin D. Castro, Application Developer. The application's visual design was spearheaded by Jubal L. Agagon, while the research was completed through the collaborative efforts of Sophia Jane L. Alejandrino, Marinel R. Codizal, Irish A***n C. Evangelista, and Janelle Rishley A. Macapagal under the guidance of Ms. Kathleen Mistades, Investigatory Project Adviser. The disaster management contents and campus evacuation information were validated by Mr. Orlando P. Benedicto, Head of the Occupational Health and Safety Office (OHSO).

Isang makabuluhan at makasaysayang pagdiriwang ang matagumpay na naisakatuparan sa katatapos lamang na NSTP Commitment Rites, na may temang “Paglilingkod sa Bayan, Pangangalaga sa Sangkilikha: Ang mga Nagtapos ng NSTP Bilang Tagapangasiwa ng Mabuting Pagkamamamayan.”

Pinatunayan ng okasyong ito na ang pagtatapos sa National Service Training Program (NSTP) ay hindi lamang simpleng pagtupad sa akademikong rekisito, kundi isang panata ng responsibilidad, malasakit, at aktibong pakikilahok sa paghubog ng mas makatao, makakalikasan, at makabayang lipunan.

Nagbigay inspirasyon sa mga mag-aaral ang mga natatanging panauhing tagapagsalita na sina 𝘈𝘵𝘵𝘺. 𝘈𝘭𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘓 𝘓𝘢𝘤𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘋𝘳. 𝘛𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘦 𝘛𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘳 𝘚𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘢. Sa kanilang mga mensahe, kanilang binigyang-diin na ang tunay na diwa ng NSTP ay makikita sa patuloy na paglilingkod sa kapwa at pangangalaga sa ating iisang tahanan—ang kalikasan at sambayanan. Ipinahayag nila na ang bawat nagtapos ng CWTS at LTS ay inaasahang maging mga ahente ng pagbabago na may malasakit sa komunidad at may pananagutang panlipunan.

Bukod sa seremonya ng panunumpa at pagkilala, tampok din sa programa ang pagbibigay-parangal sa mga mag-aaral na nagpakita ng kahusayan at inobasyon sa kanilang Green Innovation Projects at mga pananaliksik. Ang mga proyektong ito ay sumasalamin sa pagkamalikhain, kamalayang pangkalikasan, at dedikasyon ng mga mag-aaral sa pagsusulong ng sustainable at makakalikasang mga solusyon para sa komunidad.

Binigyang-pugay rin sa nasabing programa ang ROTC sa kanilang natamong LAGTI Award bilang pagkilala sa kanilang natatanging dedikasyon, disiplina, at makabayang paglilingkod. Ang pagkilalang ito ay sumasalamin sa kanilang mahalagang ambag sa pagpapaunlad ng liderato, kahandaan, at pagmamahal sa bayan bilang mga kabataang handang maglingkod sa sambayanan.

Isa sa pinakamahalagang bahagi ng programa ay ang panunumpa sa ilalim ng National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC), na nagsilbing paalala sa lahat ng nagtapos na ang serbisyo sa bayan ay hindi nagtatapos sa loob ng silid-aralan. Ang NSRC Oath ay nagsisilbing buhay na pangako ng bawat CWTS at LTS graduate na magiging handa silang tumugon, maglingkod, at manguna sa panahon ng pangangailangan ng sambayanan.

Sa pagtatapos ng seremonya, baon ng bawat mag-aaral hindi lamang ang sertipiko ng pagkumpleto, kundi ang mas malalim na paninindigan bilang tagapagtaguyod ng mabuting pagkamamamayan, pagkakaisa, at pangangalaga sa sangnilikha.
