2025 Christmas Message from the PLS Board of Directors (BOD) :

Wishing you all, PLS Lifesavers and your families, a Merry Christmas.

As we exit 2025 with full Hopes for 2026, we wish to thank all our PLS Lifesavers.

We Thank you for your hard work, dedication and your unwavering support to our Drowning Prevention and Lifesaving Advocacy.

The year 2025 marked our 19th year commitment of serving our constituency in Drowning prevention.

We have grown to 65 Lifesaving Centers which had delivered 67,327 trained Lifesavers, a few number short to our 75k target by end of 2025. These milestones were not achieved with ease - they were earned through everyday efforts
and support by PLS' remarkable strong team of Swim and Survive Program Instructors nationwide.

In delivering Drowning Prevention to our constituency (particularly the children), let us remember to choose patience with kindness, these two, we believed, can offer something beyond Lifesaving - that, we offer comfort in water safety, dignity in teaching it, and compassion to those who participate in skills learning - these virtues would truly set us, the PLS, apart with the rest.

That is why we enjoined all the PLS officers to strengthen their passion in drownproofing others, even when no one is watching. Because, truthfulness of commitment, when present, gains impact to mankind, then comes respect and trust. And when trust is there, we grow (even in the midst of storms), not just as a Lifesaving institution, but as strong advocates in saving lives.👏👏👏

Thank you once again and seeing you all hit the targets in 2026.🤜🤛

Farewell, John Baker AM ESM

Philippine Life Saving extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of John Baker AM ESM, as well as to the entire Surf Life Saving Australia , Royal Life Saving Society - Australia and the International Life Saving Federation (ILS) communities, following his sudden and unexpected passing.

John’s unwavering leadership, tireless dedication, and deep passion for saving lives have left a profound and lasting impact. His legacy will continue to inspire lifesavers across Australia, the Philippines, and beyond.

In Memoriam:
Voltaire V. Daypal, F.L.P.

We deeply mourn the passing of our fellow in the Philippine Life Saving, Voltaire Vinzon Daypal, a passionate advocate for drowning prevention and water safety in the Philippines. Voltaire dedicated his life to saving lives, empowering communities through education, and championing initiatives to reduce water-related incidents across the country.

His unwavering commitment to creating a safer environment for everyone, especially in vulnerable communities, has left a lasting impact on countless lives. Voltaire’s legacy as a lifesaver, mentor, and advocate will forever inspire us to continue the mission he so wholeheartedly believed in.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched. May his memory serve as a beacon of hope and action in the ongoing fight against drowning.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Coach Pinky Brosas, a dedicated Charter Member of the Philippine Life Saving (PLS) community and a valued member of our Board of Directors. Coach Pinky’s passion for lifesaving, coupled with his unwavering commitment to promoting water safety and rescue, has left an indelible mark on the lives of countless lifesavers. His leadership, mentorship, and tireless efforts in advancing the mission of PLS will be greatly missed.

Coach Pinky Brosas was a highly respected figure in the Philippine swimming and lifesaving community. He was particularly known for his contributions as a water safety advocate, swim coach and Full Board Director of the Philippine Life Saving (PLS). Coach Pinky also played a significant role in the development of Lifeguard profession as a Regional Lead Assessor (RLA) for the qualifications: Lifeguard Services NC II and NC III under TESDA. His selfless dedication in nurturing young athletes and lifesaving practitioners towards advocating drowning prevention made him a beloved mentor and a leader in his field.

Our deepest condolences to the Brosas family - Ate Grace, Bianca, Benito and Bettina - during this difficult time. May the legacy of Coach Pinky live on to those he inspired.

This World Drowning Prevention Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) is reminding everyone that “anyone can drown, no one should”.

Drowning has caused over 2.5 million deaths in the last decade. 90% of these deaths happen in low- and middle-income countries. Children under 4 are most at risk of drowning.

Drowning happens faster than we can respond sometimes, that’s why prevention starts before entering the water. We can all take action to end drowning.

This World Drowning Prevention Day make sure you know the steps everyone can take to prevent tragic accidents:
🔵 Learn to swim
🔵 Supervise children
🔵 No alcohol near water
🔵 Be aware of surroundings
🔵 Use safety equipment

Drowning can happen in less than a minute, but when you are prepared, seconds can save a life.

Do The HUDDLE (Where the PLS Logo got the design inspiration from) in order to Keep Everyone Safe from Water Emergency - until a rescue comes - bearing in mind to reserve the Center Space to Safely Keep the Children, Elderly, PWDs, Pregnant Women and Those Vulnerable to Drowning, The Huddle has to be executed steadfastly to withstand external distractions brought by the water disaster. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE during our Swim and Survive Training until perfection of confidence is attained to keep everyone water safe.
