COEA studes secure 2 major wins at ARAW 2026
Two student research teams from the College of Engineering and Architecture (COEA) of Cagayan State University- Carig (CSU) secured major wins at the 16th Annual Research Awards (ARAW) 2026 held on August 20 at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Sta. Mesa, Manila.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) students Arnold E. Paclarin Jr., Jonel Angelo D. Vendiola and Vinzel M. Tablac, advised by Engr. Ian C. Pagulayan, emerged as champions in the Poster Presentation competition for the research project, โMATA METER: Monitoring and Analysis of Transformer Acquired Parameters.โ
Meanwhile, another BSEE team composed of Christian Jake P. Cabasag, Gani Luis B. Dacanay and Vince F. Sumagay, with their adviser, Engr. Michael B. Orpilla, placed first runner-up in the Commercialization Research category for the study, โSmart Agri-gate with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) for Irrigation Canal Operations.โ
Both teams were coached by Engr. Ericson L. Visaya.
The CSU teams competed against research projects submitted by public and private higher education institutions from across the Philippines.
The ARAW, organized by PUP in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), recognizes outstanding student research, innovative technologies and commercially viable engineering solutions.
The awards highlight the research and innovation capabilities of CSU engineering students and their mentors in developing solutions responsive to practical and emerging challenges.
