First-year BS Agriculture students enrolled in SOILSCI2, together with third-year BS Agriculture majors in Crop Science, carried out a hands-on soil fertility analysis using the Soil Test Kits (STK) from the Regional Soils Laboratory of the Department of Agriculture (RFU V).
The activity provided students with practical competencies in determining soil fertility status, enabling them to recommend appropriate nutrient management strategies for sustainable crop productivity. For the third-year students, the results generated will also serve as baseline data for their undergraduate theses.
The Soil Test Kit (STK) offers a rapid and cost-effective method for assessing key soil parameters, including pH, nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), through observable color reactions following reagent application.
