Just two points shy of the championship, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) once again proved its cultural and artistic prowess, clinching second place overall in the Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools (MASTS) 2025 Socio-Cultural Festival held from October 25 to 30 in Misamis Occidental.
USM earned a total of 93 points, narrowly trailing behind Caraga State University (CSU), which captured the championship with 95 points. Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) placed third with 81 points, while Central Mindanao University (CMU) and North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) rounded out the top five with 47 and 35 points, respectively.
โThis has been a very challenging journey for all of usโfrom the preparations down to the actual event, there were many uncertainties. But the passion and competitiveness of our representatives rose above every challenge. Everybody gave their best for USMโnot just our performers, but everyone who extended their help to make this win possible,โ said Prof. Jessa Buisan, University Culture and Arts Director.
Prof. Buisan also expressed gratitude to the USM Administration, led by University President Dr. Jonald Pimentel, and to all offices that supported the contingent, highlighting the collective spirit and teamwork that powered USMโs strong finish this year.
For its second overall victory, USM will receive โฑ300,000 from the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental, a recognition of its enduring commitment to cultural excellence and artistic innovation.
