The Junior Social Workers' Association of the Philippines (JSWAP)-WMSU Chapter, in collaboration with the College of Social Work and Community Development's Student Council (CSWCD-CSC) and Philippine Association Of Social Workers Incorporated (PASWI)-Zamboanga Chapter, organized a special event for World Social Work Day. This year's theme, "Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Well-Being," emphasized how important it is for different generations to work together for a better and sustainable future.

The event was a meaningful gathering full of creativity, informative discussions, and learning opportunities that served as an important reminder of the essential role that social workers play in changing people's lives.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our esteemed guest speakers for sharing their time and knowledge, helping us realize that the social work profession is just as important as other professions. During the World Social Work Day seminar at Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), on March 18, 2025, Dr. Shamir R. Kassim, WMSUโ€™s Executive Assistant for Academic Concerns, representing our beloved university president, as he delivered the presidentโ€™s message shared an inspiring message about the essence of social work, emphasizing that it is more than just a jobโ€”it is a lifelong commitment to advocacy, justice, and service.

She recognized the crucial role social workers play during times of crisis, offering aid, healing, and hope despite the personal risks involved. Alongside her praise for the profession, she praised WMSUโ€™s dedication to shaping future social work professionals, noting how education, fieldwork, and partnerships strengthen intergenerational solidarity. She encouraged young social workers to learn from seasoned professionals while calling on experienced ones to continue guiding and inspiring the next generation.

Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena's message is a powerful reminder that true well-being is built together through compassion, justice, and shared responsibility across all ages. Dr Kassim on a personal note, reminded social work students to continue to serve with purpose and passion.

Mira ustedes! The Junior Social Workers' Association of the Philippines (JSWAP) - WMSU Chapter brought excitement and energy in celebration of the World Social Work Day with the thrilling Amazing Race. Held at the WMSU Ground Campus B at 2:30 PM, Social Work students from different year levels eagerly took the challenge.

The race featured five unique stations, each with a creative game designed to test the students' teamwork and problem-solving skills. The participants, grouped by year level into four teams with six members each, moved around the campus, aiming to complete all stations as quickly as possible. Every game rewarded them with cryptic codes to solve, giving them clues on where the next station is. Another reward was small flaglets, each with corresponding points. Green for 10 points, Yellow for 5 points, and Red for 2 points. The station holders determined the flaglet points based on how long the players completed the tasks.

After finishing all the stations, the teams sang their yell as loud as they could, signifying their accomplishment.

After the intense and action filled race, the 4th-year students emerged as the champions. The 1st-year students claimed the 1st runner-up spot, followed by the 2nd-year team as the 2nd runner-up, and the 3rd-year students as the 3rd runner-up.

The Amazing Race was more than just a competition. It was a celebration of teamwork, creativity, and resilience; essential to the social work profession. It showed how working together and supporting one another can overcome any challenge.

Social Workers, being at the forefront of empowering individuals, families, and communities, recognizes the importance of building strong relationships and mutual connections that bridge generational barriers. Along with theme, โ€œStrengthening Intergenerational Solidarity For Enduring Wellbeingโ€, the wisdoms, knowledge, and resources flow freely in the hearts and soul of Social Workers towards, ensuring a sustainable future of everyone.

With this, on the afternoon of March 18, 2025, a poster-making competition for 1st-4th year students was held at the AKBYN CSWCD ground. Each participant, along with their art materials, have showcased their talent through creative drawings while staying true to the theme.

The room fell silent each time a new challenge appearedโ€”complex scenarios about intervention methods, legal frameworks, and assessment tools that would make even seasoned social workers pause.

When dust settled, the seniors stood triumphant, their years of study evident in their performance. The juniors claimed second place with impressive poise, while sophomores showed amazing growth for their bronze finish. Even the freshmen, though finishing fourth, held their heads high, their initial nervousness replaced with a confidence after facing such formidable opponents. Last march 18, 2025, The Social Work day 2025 was celebrated by WMSU-College of Social Word and Community Development, brought together the college professors, staffs and students. This activity was held at the WMSU-ILS AVR with students from various year levels who attentively listened to the featured insightful presentations from the aspirant hardworking social work professionals.

The words written in expression, the wisdom gained, and the inspiration fosteredโ€”these were just a few of the emotions felt by social work students as one of our renowned professors delivered her speech. Her words left a lasting lesson for future social workers, the forefront of change.

Dr. Marcelina Carpizo, RSW, the President of PASWI-Zamboanga City Chapter, challenged social work students to embrace every challenge, continue learning, and never stop growing. She emphasized that passion, dedication, and commitment to this profession will shape our journey as social workers.

She also reminded us that what we do today will shape the future generations. How? by "walking the talk, and talking the walk." She urged us to practice what we preach and put our principles into action.
