Together, let us help build a food-secure future! The future of food security depends on the anticipated participation of young people in food and agriculture. Without the next generation of food producers, securing food for the future will be a great challenge. It is in this premise that the Kids Who Farm, a Zamboanga City-based non-profit start-up and advo

cacy initiative that aims to inspire future farmers by educating the youth on the importance and value of food and farming was co-founded by the father and daughter duo of Moncini (Muneer) Hinay and Raaina Hinay of Zamboanga City, Philippines on 26 February 2019. The core team is composed of proactive youth volunteers, young professionals, and community leaders in Zamboanga. Kids Who Farm’s vision is to reverse the persistent trend of aging Filipino farmers by building the expertise of the youth in agriculture and creating urban green jobs incubation opportunities to engage them in the business of farming to secure food for the future. Inspire the youth as the next generation of future farmers by making farming fun and easy to be learned, applied, and sustained;
2. Facilitate youth-centric programs and activities that will provide opportunities for the youth to participate in local food system solutions and community development;
3. Establish community-based social enterprises that will support local food security and promote socio-economic development of assisted communities;
4. Establish collaborative engagement with the government and the private sector to advance the vision and mission of Kids Who Farm. Indeed, our food doesn’t come from a box. It is being produced by our farmers, our food producers. The aging farmer population and the perceived disinterest of the youth of today to engage in farming imperil the future of our food security. Kids Who Farm believes that young as we are, we can be a part of the solution.

LOOK! The City Green Pockets (CGP), an initiative to create hyperlocal circular solutions to food waste and urban food security and green spaces using the Gardenator has been expanded to homeowners' associations in Butuan City!

From a school-based initiative in Agusan National High School, CGP is now currently being rolled out as an urban agriculture intervention to help tackle food security at community level with support from the Department of Agriculture - National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (DA-NUPAP XIII) and ATI Caraga Region XIII.

City Green Pocket Founder and Kids Who Farm Butuan City YoungAgriX Juniel Rey Gigaquit took the lead in the training series on Gardenator compact farming technology to officers and representatives of the different homeowners' associations in the city.

Thank you DA-NUPAP XIII and ATI XIII for helping amplify the initiative and for providing the needed logistics support!

Kids Who Farm joins the Regional Kick-Off Celebration of the World Day Against Child Labor in Zamboanga City.

On this day, Kids Who Farm highlights the powerful line between exploitation and empowerment. While forced labor takes away a child's future, youth-led urban agriculture hands it back to them. Through safe, educational microfarming and home food growing, we aren't putting kids to work; we are mentoring tomorrow’s green entrepreneurs, sustainable food system champions and climate advocates. 🌱🥦

By teaching youth to grow food sustainably, we are fortifying local food security and building resilient communities from the ground up.

Let's protect the rights of our children and invest in their promise. The future of food security starts with empowering the youth of today. 🌍💚

On June 2, 2026, Kids Who Farm teamed up with Silad Mahogany Elementary School in Butuan City to conduct a hands-on workshop for students as well as parents in the DSWD XIII’s Tara, Basa! Culmination Program. The session focused on microfarming and featured a step-by-step guide on creating "tarpots"—an innovative, eco-friendly solution designed by Kids Who Farm to upcycle old tarpaulins into durable planters for vegetables and herbs.

The initiative successfully promoted local food security while keeping waste out of landfills, and was made possible through the support of the Rotaract Club of Butuan Highlands and ATI Caraga Region XIII who provided the IEC advocacy learning materials.

Our sincere appreciation and thanks to our volunteers and partners.
