A slight improvement in air quality has been observed. 🌿

The latest monitoring result from PMS–WMSU San Ramon Campus shows that the PM2.5 AQI decreased from 166 (Very Unhealthy) at 2:00 PM to 125 (Unhealthy) at 3:00 PM.

🟣 2:00 PM — AQI 166 | VERY UNHEALTHY
🔴 3:00 PM — AQI 125 | UNHEALTHY

While this indicates a reduction in the level of fine particulate matter, the air quality remains UNHEALTHY, meaning some members of the general public may experience health effects, while sensitive groups may experience more serious effects.

Did you know?

🔵 PM2.5 – Fine Particulate Matter
These very small particles can travel deep into the lungs and may even enter the bloodstream. They can come from vehicle exhaust, industrial emissions, burning of fossil fuels, open burning, and wildfires.

🟢 PM10 – Coarse Particulate Matter
These larger particles commonly come from road dust, construction activities, soil and dust, pollen, mold spores, and sea salt. They can irritate the nose, throat, and airways.

💡 Remember: Both PM2.5 and PM10 are invisible to the naked eye and require specialized air quality monitoring equipment to detect and measure.

What can YOU do? 🌱
✔️ Wear a mask when needed
✔️ Limit outdoor activities when air quality is poor
✔️ Keep doors and windows closed when necessary
✔️ Stay informed and regularly check the Air Quality Index (AQI)
✔️ Support clean-air initiatives in your community

Be informed. Stay updated.

Appreciation post ahead—let's take a walk down memory lane!

From May to June, our Biology Interns embarked on a meaningful journey through their Practicum, dedicating their time to gaining hands-on experience in various laboratories and fieldwork sites. Throughout this internship, they developed essential scientific skills, deepened their knowledge, and embraced the realities of serving communities through science.

The Natural Sciences Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to our valued partner institutions for opening their doors, sharing their expertise, and providing our interns with invaluable learning experiences. Your guidance and support have played a vital role in shaping the next generation of biologists and researchers.

That's a wrap for our Interns!

On July 6, 2026, the Biology Interns of Batch 2026 successfully held their Internship Culmination Program, "IntVivo: Nurturing Life through Science and Service."

Six (6) groups creatively showcased their internship experiences and journeys across various partner agencies: the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL), Regional Feed and Chemical Analysis Laboratory (RFCAL), Philippine Coconut Authority–Zamboanga Research Center (PCA-ZRC), Philippine Carabao Center–Mindanao Livestock Production Center (PCC-MLPC), Office of the City Agriculturist (OCA), Office of the City Veterinarian (OCVet), and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO).

Through their presentations, the Biology Interns reflected on the knowledge, skills, and meaningful experiences they gained during their month-long internship. They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Natural Sciences Department for providing this invaluable opportunity and to the partner agencies for their guidance, mentorship, and the lifelong lessons they will carry throughout their journey as BS Biology students and future professionals.

Congratulations to all the Biology Interns on the successful completion of your internship and a fruitful Junior year. Your dedication, perseverance, and passion for science and service have truly paid off. Wishing you continued success as you move forward in your academic and professional journey!

Mud on boots, insect traps to DNA gels, sterile hood and micropipettes—that's what awaits the 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬!

This visual and academic map of their internship journey highlights the diverse professional landscapes that the Biology interns conquered.

To the open ecosystem, the fieldwork interns braved unpredictable weather, trekked dense terrain, and waded through water systems. Meticulously logged biodiversity data and collected biological samples, proving that science takes immense physical resilience.

The laboratory interns? Just trying not to fail an analysis.

Visit us and witness the breakthrough data and the heavy grind of these 3rd-year Biology interns, with the help of respective agencies:

From the Department of Agriculture—the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, the Regional Feed and Chemical Analysis Laboratory, the Philippine Coconut Authority - Zamboanga Research Center and the Philippine Carabao Center - Mindanao Livestock Production Center.

From the City Government of Zamboanga—the Office of the City Agriculturist and the Office of the City Veterinarian.

And from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Philippines—the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office.
