UNIVERSITY MEMO | Continued Suspension of Classes on August 22, 2026

In view of the continuing circumstances affecting the University community, and to provide our students, families, faculty, and personnel further time for recovery and to attend to their well-being, the Office of the University President released Memo 26-27:25 regarding the continued suspension of classes at all levels tomorrow, August 22, 2026.

In view of the circumstances affecting the University, classes remain suspended on August 20, 2026, as we pause in remembrance, reflection, and prayer for our students, personnel, families, and the entire AdZU community.

INVITATION | Mass for Healing

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University community is invited to come together in prayer during the Mass for Healing on August 20, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at the University Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

As one community, we gather to seek God’s healing and offer prayers for all those affected by the incident.

The Mass will also be livestreamed through the official page of Ateneo de Zamboanga University for those who are unable to attend in person.

Let us come together in faith and solidarity, drawing strength from one another and placing our trust in God during this challenging time.

In moments like this, let us be mindful of what we share. While keeping our community informed matters, so does the care with which we speak of and portray what has happened.

Let us refrain from circulating graphic images and videos. May we inform without diminishing the weight of what others are going through, and respond with the sensitivity such moments call for.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University is saddened by the incident that happened today on our JHS campus.

As of now, we confirm that there are two (2) fatalities. As for other information, we are coordinating with authorities for the full report with full details to be provided as soon as possible.

The safety of our students is our top priority. We have already coordinated with parents and guardians to pick up their children and the university has ensured the safety of those remaining on campus.

We have set up official communication channels and will relay these information to the public as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we ask everyone to respect the privacy of all affected individuals.

We pray for the quick resolution of the situation and for the safety of all. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
