Social Awareness and Community Service Involvement Office - AdZU

Social Awareness and Community Service Involvement Office - AdZU Official page of SACSI Office. The acronym “SACSI” in the Filipino language means “witness”. This is an apt description of what the office is all about.

The office serves as a witness to the social realities of the larger society; and being so, convey the facts from the University of Life to the Ateneo academe to develop a sense of social commitment among the students, faculty and staff of our community for a just, humane and God-inspired society. SACSI stands for Social Awareness and Community Service Involvement. This is the office within the un

iversity that serves as the link between the school and the outside communities to complement theories learned in the classroom with the actual realities of life. As the social involvement arm of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, it is guided by the principles of academic excellence, socio-political maturity, and spiritual growth. Its primary concern is the holistic formation of the students – to be Men and Women of God, for others.

During the KAIROS Seniors' Retreat held last May 23–24, 2026, senior volunteers were invited to reflect on the discussion of the five pillars of SACSI: Authentic Humanism, Interfaith Dialogue, Simplicity of Life, Faith that Does Justice, and Peace, through the session “SACSI to SACSIs (Success)" by Kuya Niño Guevara, the session emphasized the importance of recognizing the dignity of every person, respecting differences in beliefs and cultures, appreciating the beauty of simple moments, and understanding that faith must always be accompanied by concrete actions that create meaningful change in society.

Volunteers were also reminded that peace is not only something we seek for ourselves, but something we continuously practice, share, and inspire in the lives of others through our actions and relationships.

The gathering also highlighted the realities that exist beyond the campus and within society, where every individual carries different struggles, experiences, and stories shaped by their backgrounds and family circumstances.

Through heartfelt stories and reflections, Batch 37 volunteers were reminded that not everyone experiences life in the same way and that empathy, understanding, and compassion are essential in becoming true persons for others.

One moving reflection shared how some individuals choose to sacrifice even the simplest comforts because of the hardships faced by their families, serving as a powerful reminder of the unseen realities many people endure every day.

Filled with realizations, emotional conversations, and shared experiences, the recollection became a meaningful opportunity for senior volunteers to become more mindful of the lives of others and to continue living out SACSI’s values with humility, empathy, and genuine service.

Some people lead through authority, but Ma’am Cha led through heart, compassion, and genuine service. As you close this chapter as Director of SACSI, we carry with us not only the memories of your leadership, but also the countless lessons, encouragement, and quiet sacrifices you gave for every volunteer, partner, and community we served.

Thank you for believing in people even before they believed in themselves. Thank you for teaching us that service is not just about programs and activities, but about presence, empathy, and walking with others with sincerity and love.

Your impact goes far beyond titles and accomplishments. You helped shape journeys, inspire purpose, and remind us what it truly means to serve with humility and courage.

Padayon, Ma’am Cha. May you continue to inspire and touch more lives wherever your next journey leads you. Maraming salamat for the love, wisdom, patience, and genuine commitment you shared with the SACSI family. Your legacy will always live in the hearts of the people you formed and journeyed with.

“As St. Ignatius reminds us, ‘Go forth and set the world on fire.’”

May you continue to become a light of hope, service, and compassion wherever you are called to serve.
