Successful PhD Thesis Defense

The Department of Environmental Sciences, COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus, is pleased to announce the successful PhD Thesis Defense (Viva Voce Examination) of Mr. Nfor Elvis Nfor (CIIT/FA23-PES-002/ATD), UNESCO–CUI–TWAS Postgraduate Fellow.

Development and Optimization of Metal Oxide Modified Photocatalytic Concrete for the Photodegradation of Reactive Black 5

CUI Abbottabad Hosted a Successful Hands-on RS & GIS Workshop!

The Department of Environmental Sciences at COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus, hosted its first-ever One-Day Remote Sensing & GIS Hands-on Training Workshop on August 18, 2026! 🛰️📊
Around 25 researchers and professionals—including international PhD scholars—from across Lahore, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Mansehra, and Haripur joined us for an intensive learning experience.
Quick Highlights:
Session I: Fundamentals of RS & GIS (Prof. Dr. Abdul Nazir)
Sessions II & III: Geospatial Tools & Hands-on GIS Exercises (Dr. Romana Jamshed & Mr. Ishtiaq Yousaf)
Participants explored practical GIS applications across climate change, disaster risk assessment, forestry, earth sciences, and natural resource management.

We are delighted to share another research milestone from the Department of Environmental Sciences, COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus.

📚 Published Research

“Synergistic interfacial engineering of mesoporous magnetic metal oxide TiO₂ nanocomposites for sustainable visible-light photocatalysis: Experimental insights and ML-based performance prediction.” by Safdar Abbas Kazmi (PhD Scholar)

The study presents an innovative Fe₃O₄/TiO₂ magnetic photocatalyst for sustainable textile wastewater treatment, integrating:

☀️ Visible-light photocatalysis
🧲 Magnetic recovery and reuse
🤖 Machine-learning-based performance prediction
💧 Sustainable wastewater treatment

This remarkable accomplishment was achieved under the mentorship of:

This work demonstrates the potential of combining advanced nanomaterials, photocatalysis, magnetic separation, and artificial intelligence to develop more efficient and sustainable solutions for environmental pollution control.

The Department of Environmental Sciences is proud to share that Uzair Ishtiaq (BES final year student) has won 1st Position for his research poster presentation at the Two-Day International Conference on "Next Gen Chemistry for a Sustainable Future," held at Hazara University, Mansehra (August 25–26, 2026).
