From Warning to Action | Department of Development Studies at CUI Leads the Way
The Department of Development Studies, COMSATS University Islamabad (Abbottabad Campus), proudly highlights its active engagement in the Act on Alert at the Last Mile (AMAL) Conference — a powerful platform bringing together policymakers, practitioners, academia, media, and community representatives to strengthen early warning systems and anticipatory action in Pakistan
As a key academic partner, the Department of Development Studies played a central role in contributing evidence-based insights and fostering dialogue on enhancing last-mile communication and community-centered disaster preparedness.
The Worthy Rector, CUI, Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar T.I., delivered the opening address, emphasizing the critical link between science, policy, and community resilience.
The Director, CUI Abbottabad Campus, Prof. Dr. Shahid, concluded the event with closing remarks highlighting the importance of sustained collaboration and institutional commitment.
The conference also featured the Honourable Minister for Climate Change, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to climate resilience and proactive disaster risk management.
The AMAL project—implemented in Swat, Charsadda, and Dera Ismail Khan—showcased valuable lessons on translating early warnings into timely, inclusive, and actionable responses that protect lives and livelihoods
The initiative is implemented Department of Develolment Studies, CUI and Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation with support from FCDO through Oxford Policy Management under CF-WRAP, in collaboration with PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and district administrations.
