He worked with Christiaan Huygens & Gottfried Leibniz & became interested in using a vacuum to generate motive power. He went to London in 1675 to work with Robert Boyle. In 1679, Papin invented his steam digester (pressure cooker)

We embrace the laws of thermodynamics as among the most fundamental foundations of modern physics. However, as recently as the early 19th century, no one had codified the laws of thermodynamics in precise, physical terms. That process began with the work of a little-known French man, who is our (first) "scientist of the day" today.

(March 06 - Bohr's Atomic Model)

In 1913, this date (March 06) was written by Niels Bohr on his first paper describing his new ideas on atomic structure, and sent to his mentor, Ernest Rutherford. It was one of three historic papers he wrote on this subject.

For your information, Bohr put forth three postulates to provide an electron model consistent with Rutherford's nuclear model and it was the first successful model of the atom (first quantum model of the atom).

It's the birthday of Sir Charles Wheatstone, one of the most celebrated scientists & inventors of his time —

With his device of revolving mirror, he measured the velocity of electricity in a wire. Later, by his suggestion, Léon Foucault & Hippolyte Fizeau used this revolving mirror to measure the velocity of light.

But he is best known for his contributions in the development of the Wheatstone bridge & as a major figure in the development of telegraphy.
