The Department of English Literature, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, successfully conducted the first session of the English Alumni Speaker Series 2026.

The webinar featured Ms. Ayezza Sattar, Deputy Secretary, Federal Secretariat, Government of Pakistan, who delivered her talk on postcolonialism with reference to Edward Said, Eqbal Ahmad, and Daniyal Mueenuddin. The session was followed by an engaging Q&A, where students actively participated and interacted with the guest speaker.

The event concluded with the closing remarks of Prof. Dr. Sohail Ahmad Saeed, Chairman, Department of English Literature, who appreciated the speaker’s contribution and encouraged students to continue participating in such enriching academic discussions.

The Department of English Literature conducted a viva voce exam for MPhil scholars today.

MPhil scholars, Laviza Khan, Laiba Qureshi, and Faiza Tehreem, completed their research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sohail Ahmad Saeed, Ms. Alina Tariq Chohan and Ms. Khadija Riaz respectively.

Dr. Mahmood Shaheen, Associate Professor from Department of English, SE College Bahawalpur, was the external examiner.

International Webinar on Ecocriticism and South Asian Fiction

The Department of English Literature, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, successfully organized an international webinar on Ecocriticism and South Asian Fiction.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Raheela Hameed Laghari (Middle East Research Centre, Oman), delivered a comprehensive and thought-provoking presentation, exploring the intersections of ecocriticism and South Asian fiction. Her insightful discussion highlighted the growing importance of environmental consciousness in literary studies and inspired participants to engage with the subject from fresh critical perspectives.

The session concluded with a lively and interactive Q&A, where students and faculty actively participated by raising insightful questions, making the discussion both engaging and intellectually enriching.

The Department extends its sincere gratitude to Prof. Dr. Sohail Ahmad Saeed, Chairman, Department of English Literature, for his continued support, Dr. Noveen Javed, Organizer, and Mr. Rana Muzammil Fayyaz, Moderator, for successfully coordinating the event, and all participants for making the webinar a great success.
