Research Excellence at FET

Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) is pleased to announce that Dr. Ehtasham Mustafa ment of Electrical Engineering, has been awarded a competitive research grant under the National Research Program for Universities (NRPU), Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan.

The funded project, titled:
“Development of IDC-Based Sensing Systems for Condition Monitoring of Low-Voltage Cables Using Dielectric Spectroscopy”, has been approved with a total funding of PKR 5.174 million.

This achievement reflects the highly selective nature of the NRPU program, where only 149 projects were approved out of approximately 7,000 submissions, corresponding to a success rate of around 2.2%. The initiative aims to promote high-impact research, strengthen academia–industry linkages, and address key national challenges.

The project focuses on developing advanced diagnostic and sensing techniques for monitoring the health of electrical insulation systems, contributing to improved reliability, safety, and performance of power infrastructure.

FET staff and students extend their congratulations to Dr. Ehtasham Mustafa and Dr. Aamir Nawaz (Co-PI) on this notable achievement and wish them success in the ex*****on of this important research project.

The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) concluded its Re-Accreditation Visit on October 17, 2025, at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), Gomal University today.

During the exit meeting, the PEC team highly praised the foreign-qualified faculty, impressive publication record, and modern laboratories of the Faculty. The Convener recommended establishing a Career Counseling Cell and organizing Outcome-Based Education (OBE) training across all faculties to meet future accreditation requirements.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal appreciated the team’s valuable feedback and assured that OBE workshops will soon be arranged for faculty members university-wide.

FET Gomal University is proudly accredited under the Washington Accord through PEC, granting its graduates global recognition as professional engineers in countries including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, and others. This reflects FET’s commitment to world-class engineering education and its status as a leading institution in the region.

The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Re-Accreditation Visit commenced on 16 October, 2025, at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, for the B.Sc. Electrical (Telecommunication) Engineering Program under the PEC Manual of Accreditation-2019.

At start of the visit, the PEC team also held a meeting with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, along with the Director Finance, Registrar, and other senior university officials. The meeting focused on discussing the current academic and administrative developments of Gomal University and its commitment to continuous quality enhancement in line with PEC standards.

The distinguished PEC Evaluation Team, led by Engr. Prof. Dr. Laiq Khan (CUI Attock), along with Engr. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed (NUCES Islamabad), Engr. Prof. Dr. Fahim Gohar Awan (UET-KSK), and Engr. Haris Rashid (PEC Islamabad), visited various academic departments, laboratories, and facilities. The team reviewed curricula, laboratory infrastructure, and Outcome-Based Education (OBE) implementation and appreciated the discipline, professionalism, and advanced learning environment at FET.

Gomal University remains dedicated to academic excellence, transparency, and international accreditation, preparing its engineering graduates to meet global challenges and opportunities.

The Faculty of Engineering & Technology is proud to share that Engr. Saad Hayat, PhD scholar (Session 2022–25) from the Department of Electrical Engineering, has recently published his research in Battery Energy (Wiley)— a Web of Science (ESCI) and EI Compendex indexed emerging journal.

Title: Optimization of Power System Flexibility through AI-Driven Dynamic Load Management and Renewable Integration

This publication is part of his doctoral research focused on enhancing energy flexibility through AI, renewable integration, and MATPOWER-based power system simulations.

The research is supervised by Dr. Aamir Nawaz, an accomplished academician and researcher with expertise in smart grids, AC/DC hybrid systems, and renewable energy integration. Dr. Nawaz leads the Green Energy and Power System (GEPS) Research Group, and actively contributes to international collaborations, SCI publications, and major funded projects.
