*International Labor Day*, is observed globally on May 1 to honor workers and the labor movement. It traces back to the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago, where laborers striking for an eight-hour workday clashed with police, and the Second International declared May 1 a day of demonstration in 1889. Today over 80 countries recognize it as a public holiday, with rallies, marches, and speeches highlighting workers' rights, fair wages, safe conditions, and social justice. While the United States and Canada mark Labor Day in September, May 1 remains the most widely recognized date internationally for celebrating the contributions of workers and advocating for labor reforms.
