Department of English Language and Literature - TUF To foster student's comprehension in the depths of Linguistics techniques and theories in literature

Department of English Language and Literature is a hub for creative and critical literacy. Our courses blend the premiers of literature and linguistics at graduate level, and proceed with them to post graduate level specialized courses in applied linguistics. We believe in eclecticism when it comes to teaching, so each course is tailored, reviewed, and monitored according to its potential learners

. Our approach towards the process of teaching and learning is untraditional and outcome-based, and often involves various analytical methods for constant evaluation of our courses. Our faculty is trained as teachers and as researchers through a variety of advance training programs inside and outside the campus. Our courses are in sync with the updated curriculum provided by the Higher Education Commission Pakistan. All in all, the Department of English maintains a conducive and friendly atmosphere of teaching and learning, using latest resources, labs, and digital libraries, for its tech-savvy novices. Department of English aims to project the critical significance of two parallel and sometimes inseparable disciplines, Linguistics and Literature in English. (SE) at TUF is committed to endorse an enriching research-based pedagogic compound of synchronic and diachronic perspectives on language, with reference to both form and meaning. Similarly, it is also concerned with elusive nuances involved in the experience of aesthetics involving practical applications of these aesthetic principles on the works of literature. Parallel to it Department of English is also focused for the studentsโ€™ understanding of the literature, history and style of writing and techniques in use throughout the ages in the field of English.

The Department of English Language and Literature organized an informative seminar titled โ€œThe Future of Linguistics: Trends and Technologyโ€. The session aimed to familiarize students with emerging trends in linguistics, the growing role of technology in language studies, and future academic and professional prospects in the field.
The seminar featured Dr Kazim Shah, Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Linguistics, Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF), as the guest speaker.
Dr Kazim Shah delivered an engaging and thought-provoking talk on the evolving landscape of linguistics in the digital age. He began by conceptualizing language from multiple perspectives, explaining language as a system, behavior, and action. This foundational discussion helped students understand the dynamic and functional nature of language beyond traditional definitions.
Building on this theoretical grounding, Dr Kazim explored contemporary trends and technological developments in linguistics. He highlighted the impact of artificial intelligence, natural language processing, corpus linguistics, and other computational tools on modern linguistic research and real-life applications. The speaker emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary competence and encouraged students to combine linguistic expertise with digital skills.
He further discussed practical domains where linguistics graduates can contribute, including machine translation, speech recognition, language teaching technologies, digital discourse analysis, and forensic linguistics. The Department of English Language and Literature at The University of Faisalabad organized a panel discussion titled โ€œRewiring Recovery: Language, Brain, and Physiotherapyโ€ on 25 February 2026 at the Amin Campus. The panel featured distinguished experts including Dr Rafia Imtiaz from Government College University Faisalabad, Dr Nisar Fatima from Riphah International University, Dr Umbreena Rasool of TUF and Ms Fajar Noor of TUF.

The discussion offered an interdisciplinary perspective on the intersection of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), neuroscience and rehabilitative therapy. Panelists highlighted the growing significance of integrating insights from linguistics and cognitive science with physiotherapeutic practices to enhance patient care. The Department of English Language and Literature organized a creative model exhibition titled โ€œThe Art of Expression: Model Exhibition in English Language and Literatureโ€. The event was coordinated by Ms. Maria Hafeez and was graced by Dr. Sidra Ahmad as the judge.

During the exhibition, students actively presented and explained their models, offering insightful interpretations of key concepts related to English language and literature. The models creatively represented linguistic theories, literary movements, and the multifaceted role of language in expression, reflecting studentsโ€™ strong academic understanding, analytical skills, and originality.

Dr. Sidra Ahmad appreciated the studentsโ€™ confidence, creativity, and clarity of presentation. The Department of English Language and Literature organized an enlightening seminar titled โ€œCareer Pathways in Speech-Language Pathologyโ€. Coordinated by Ms. Maria Hafeez, the seminar featured Ms. Iqra Nafees as the guest speaker.

The session aimed to raise awareness among students about the emerging field of Speech-Language Pathology, its scope, and its strong connection with linguistics and communication sciences. Ms. Iqra Nafees provided a comprehensive overview of the academic routes, essential qualifications, and clinical training required to enter this profession. She also highlighted the wide range of career opportunities available both nationally and internationally, particularly in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, and research institutions.

The distinguished guest speaker, Dr Katsiaryna Hurbik, shared valuable insights on the intersections of language, policy, and technology, highlighting themes such as language and technology, multilingualism in education, translation and interpretation, and linguistic diversity.
