The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), established in 1906 as the Punjab Agricultural College and Research Institute, Lyallpur, has led Pakistan’s agricultural transformation for over a century. Founded during British India’s canal colony era, it played a pivotal role in converting barren lands into food-secure regions, laying the foundation for modern agriculture in South Asia. In 1961, it became the West Pakistan Agricultural University with academic support from Washington State University, USA. Renamed as UAF in 1973, it has since remained a national leader in agricultural education, research, and rural development. UAF is ranked 1st in Pakistan for agriculture and 34th globally in Agriculture & Forestry in QS World University Rankings 2025, placing it among the world’s top 700 universities. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, a distinguished educationist and agricultural scientist, UAF is advancing as a model of innovation, inclusion, and global collaboration. The university comprises 9 faculties, 3 constituent colleges, 1 community college, 6 centers, and serves over 33,000 students, 52% of them women. It promotes excellence across diverse disciplines including veterinary sciences, engineering, food & nutrition, social sciences, basic and pharmaceutical sciences, and humanities. UAF’s dynamic research ecosystem features the Pak-Korea Nutrition Center (PKNC), D-8 Food Security Center, Confucius Institute, and ICDD-Germany. A two-day training workshop titled “Enhance Teamwork through Reflection, is organised by the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) for the university’s senior management on Thursday.
The workshop aimed to strengthen collaboration among various departments, improve communication between administrative units and enhance the professional capacity of senior officials to address institutional challenges more effectively. It also focused on the importance of reflective learning, collective decision-making and shared responsibility in promoting a productive working environment.
Prof. Dr. Khurram Jahangir Sharif, an international resource person from Qatar University, highlighted that sustainable institutional development depended on mutual trust, experiential learning and a shared vision among team members. He emphasised that effective teamwork was not merely about working together but also about developing a common understanding of institutional priorities, responsibilities and objectives.
He observed that modern educational institutions faced increasingly complex academic and administrative challenges that required coordinated efforts rather than isolated decision-making. Strong communication channels, constructive feedback and a culture of mutual respect could help institutions overcome operational hurdles, minimise misunderstandings and improve the overall quality of their services.
Prof. Sharif further underscored the importance of reflection as a tool for organisational learning, explaining that reviewing experiences, identifying shortcomings and learning from past decisions could help teams develop more effective strategies. He stressed that encouraging open dialogue and sharing professional experiences among officials could contribute to better problem-solving and more informed decision-making.
QEC Director Dr. Muhammad Zahid said that enhancing the operational capacity of university officials was essential for maintaining academic quality and administrative standards. He emphasised that effective governance required close coordination among departments, timely communication and a shared commitment to institutional improvement.
He called for greater cross-departmental synergy, stressing that administrative matters often involved multiple offices and could be resolved more efficiently through collaborative planning and coordinated action..
Dr. Zahid also highlighted the role of the Quality Enhancement Cell in promoting a culture of continuous improvement, institutional accountability and quality assurance.
The workshop provided an opportunity for senior management to reflect on existing working practices, exchange professional experiences and explore ways to improve coordination across departments. The initiative was part of broader efforts to strengthen the university’s administrative framework and promote a collaborative culture conducive to academic excellence.

International Seminar on Environmental Pollution and Remediation Successfully Concludes at UAF
The Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences (ISES), University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF), organized an International Seminar on Environmental Pollution and Remediation, bringing together distinguished national and international speakers, researchers, academicians, environmental experts, and students to discuss emerging environmental challenges and sustainable solutions.
Prof. Dr. Ghulam Murtaza, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, UAF highlighted the importance of scientific research, innovative remediation technologies, and collaborative efforts to address environmental pollution. He emphasized the need to strengthen academia-industry linkages and promote practical, research-based strategies for protecting soil, water, and the environment.
Prof. Dr. Hafiz Naeem Asghar (Director, ISES) and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naveed (Director, PBI) co-organized the event. Dr. Muhammad Imran Khan (Associate Professor, ISES) served as the focal person who introduced the seminar and presented an overview.
National and international speakers from different institutions and organizations shared their valuable insights and research findings on environmental contamination, soil and water pollution, remediation technologies, sustainable environmental management, and emerging approaches to pollution control.
Prof. Dr. Hafiz Naeem Asghar, Director, ISES, UAF, concluded the technical session of the seminar with a vote of thanks.
The event was sponsored by the Endowment Fund Secretariat (EFS), UAF and Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC), Pakistan.

FAISALABAD, Oct 9: Experts have stressed the need to make eggs a regular part of the daily diet to address protein deficiency and improve nutritional health, noting that annual per capita egg consumption in the country stands at around 100, compared with approximately 300 in developed countries.
They expressed these views at a seminar organised by the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) to mark World Egg Day under the theme, “The Mighty Egg: Packed with Natural Nutrition”.
Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences Prof Dr Shahid Mehmood said eggs should be an essential part of the daily diet because of their high nutritional value and potential health benefits. He said eggs contained 13 essential nutrients and supported health at every stage of life, from brain development in childhood to muscle maintenance and bone strength in old age. He added that the poultry sector was the country’s second-largest industry after textiles and urged people to increase egg consumption.
Chairman of the Department of Pathology Prof Dr Kashif Saleemi said eggs were a rich source of protein, vitamins and minerals. He added that eggs were an affordable, readily available and versatile source of nutrition, making them an important component of a balanced diet. He stressed the need to raise public awareness about the health benefits of regular egg consumption to help address nutritional deficiencies in the country.
Additional Director Livestock Faisalabad Dr Robina highlighted the importance of eggs in improving household nutrition and addressing dietary deficiencies. She also underscored the importance of promoting healthy eating habits to improve overall public health.
Marketing Manager Mukhtar Feed Kaleem Qamar Gill said greater awareness of the nutritional and economic value of eggs could help increase their consumption across the country. He emphasised the need for coordinated efforts by the poultry industry, livestock authorities and relevant institutions to promote egg consumption and make people more aware of its role in a balanced diet.
Dr Muhammad Yousaf said World Egg Day, observed on the second Friday of October every year, provided an opportunity to highlight the contribution of eggs to nutrition and health worldwide
Dr Rao Zahid Abbas, Dr Misbah Ijaz and other participants also attended the event, which aimed to promote awareness of the role of eggs in a balanced diet and encourage healthier food choices.

FAISALABAD October 8: The Qur'anic teachings on dignity, justice and balance between men and women offer a lasting framework for empowering women and enriching literature, speakers said at a session on "Voices of Empowerment: Muslim Women in Literature".

The Department of English and Linguistics, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), organised the session under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali. The resource person was Dr Asma Aftab, Associate Professor, Department of English Literature, Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF).

Dr Asma Aftab discussed the ideas of Fatema Mernissi, Bina Shah and other theorists and authors who have written on women's rights and social justice within an Islamic framework.

She said that, unlike secular Western feminism, which typically seeks liberation outside religious structures, Islamic feminism works from within the faith, on the core belief that the Qur'an is inherently egalitarian. She added that the Qur'an gives women dignity, rights and respect, and that these teachings remain a strong source of guidance for gender equality and social justice today. Reflecting on the rights granted to women in early Islam, she said that returning to these teachings can inspire positive change and encourage more thoughtful, informed discussion on the subject.

She said that Muslim women writers and scholars have played an important role in expressing these values through literature, and she encouraged students to read and engage with their work.

The programme was hosted by Eman. Hafiza Hina Yousaf recited verses from the Holy Qur'an, and Malaika Shahzadi presented a Naat. Dr Atta-ul-Mustafa delivered the welcome note.

Under the direction of the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, the UAF Library reached out to library professionals from public and private universities in an orientation session on "Bibliotherapy Program" organized by the Punjab Higher Education Comission (PHEC) at University of the Punjab, Lahore. Mr. Umar Farooq, Librarian, UAF and Ms. Iqra Nafees, Psychologist, Health 360 shared the journey of UAF's Bibliotherapy Program from idea to prcatice.

Audience learned about Bibliotherapy as a tool to support emotional well-being, stress management, and resilience of students on the campus through books and reading. Dr. Asif Munir, Director, Directorate of Quality Assurance, PHEC, appreciated the initiative and encouraged university library professionals to develop similar programs at their respective institutions.

On this occasion, Mr. Asif Khan, Chief Librarian, and Mr. Saleem Abbas, Deputy Chief Librarian, from University of the Punjab warmly welcomed the guests and facilitated the event.
