His Excellency Frederico Silva’s Visit to Ram Pyrai Mahal
Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan
On the invitation of Mr. Farooq Riaz (owner of the largest private museum in Gujrat), I had the privilege of visiting Ram Pyari Mahal today, where it was an honour to meet His Excellency Frederico Silva, the Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan. I was delighted to provide him and his delegation with an in-depth briefing on the Ram Pyari Mahal, now known as the Gujrat Museum and Art Gallery, and its exceptional galleries. This iconic building is a true reflection of Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage, showcasing a diverse range of exhibits that highlight the region’s history and art.
During the visit, we explored several fascinating galleries, starting with the Pre and Protohistoric Gallery, which brings to life the early history of the Indus Valley Civilization through its ancient artifacts and tools. The Gandhara Civilization Gallery left a lasting impression, with its remarkable fusion of Greco-Buddhist art. The Ethnological Gallery also provided a deeper understanding of Pakistan’s diverse cultural heritage, displaying a variety of arts and crafts from Gujrat, including kitchenware, jewellery, musical instruments, and more.
Furthermore, Mr. Yahya Sikender, the Museum Incharge, gave the delegation a thorough overview of the Gujrat Industrial Gallery, emphasizing the region’s industrial legacy, particularly its renowned pottery and fan industries.
The exchange was truly enriching, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share these key aspects of Pakistan’s cultural history with His Excellency. As a history graduate, he showed a keen interest in the briefing and asked insightful questions throughout.
